The Yankees worked overtime last night, but it was the Rays who eventually won the AL East contest 11-10, in 12 innings. Sergio Mitre was saddled with the loss in relief, as he worked 1 and two thirds innings out of the bullpen in extra innings. Derek Jeter picked up 1 RBI and 3 hits to spark the club offensively.
The Yankees and Rays play again tonight at Tropicana Field, as New York sends Phil Hughes (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against Wade Davis (0-0, 0.00) in game 2 of the series.
