Another Developer on the Bandwagon: OOTP coming to the iPhone Stuck
Posted on April 29, 2010 at 01:49 PM.
Many of you know I am a strong supporter of mobile gaming, especially on Apple's App platform since it's just so darned big. As it turns out, I'm not the only one who loves the App Store. Developers from Eidos and Championship Manager to EA and their most popular titles FIFA, Madden and NBA Live have jumped aboard the bandwagon.

Now Out of the Park Developments is jumping on board.

Markus Heinsohn, possibly my favorite game developer out there, chimed in about the upcoming product, "The goal is to have a quick & dirty game, just with major league rosters (no minor leagues) and single-season play only. Although that might change, depending on how the tests for the hardware limitations go. It will have a pretty basic feature list and it geared to instant fun rather than complex gameplay which is the hallmark of OOTP 11 right now."

Markus didn't go so far as to mention a timeline for the game's release, and smartly so given the complexities of the app store approval process and whatnot. He did mention that the new game was also a one-man show, as he added a new coder to the mix to develop the game.

"He is familiar with OOTP since version 4 and is very good at C++. Luckily he lives just a few miles away from us. Programming wise it will not be a huge task, our platform libraries already support the iPhone, so it's basically a matter of making the right feature choices and screen design."

And for those of you with iPads? Markus mentioned an HD Version of the iPhone game will likely follow, with a feature set closer to that of the full desktop game. For those of you not in the know, I reviewed OOTP 11 not too long ago and gave the game 5-stars (the best I can do for any game). You can always go check out what the hype is all about by getting the game at the game's official site.

Expect more from OS and Markus about all of the great things going on at OOTP Developments in the future.

Cool idea. OOTP is an excellent game, and there's no reason why this will be any different.
