Chris' Shortlist: The Early NCAA 11 Outlook Stuck
Posted on March 31, 2010 at 06:02 PM.
I'm going to start a new and constantly recurring series on my blog which I will do from time to time called Chris' Shortlist. The basic jist is that I will list three things about the topic of the day which I feel should be highlighted. With that said, onto the inagural edition of this series: The Early NCAA 11 Outlook
  1. Improved looks - While I know about the longstanding graphics vs. gameplay argument, in this day and age where small details are scruitinized like never before, it's good to see the NCAA team really going after detail elements. Numbers on helmets, refs on the field, etc. will just make the game feel better, if only subtley.
  2. Formation Subs - FINALLY! You can cue up the "why weren't these in the past four years" comments in just a moment, but Formation Subs are one of the most missed features of next-gen NCAA. I'm glad it's back.
  3. Pro-tak attack - Many scruitinized the Pro-tak system in Madden, but I feel it was still a pretty huge improvement over any previous EA Football attempt at tackling and it certainly matches up with any other tackling engine historically as well. It was a no brainer to be in NCAA, but just knowing it's there will help a lot.
The outlook: I'm thinking the outlook for NCAA 11, considering most of the big marketing guns are still in the holster, is pretty positive at this point. Last year's game was stuck in the mud and the improvment of this year's title over last year's will be a lot more than NCAA 10 over NCAA 09. I'm expecting a big comeback year for the series.

I can honestly say that I'm excited about NCAA 11 even more so than last year's, which I was pretty excited for and enjoyed DESPITE what it "lacked". The graphics from the first 3 screenshots look GREAT and I hope that the Madden team can adopt the new lighting and color "de-saturation" that NCAA 11 is utilizing.
I am also glad to hear, which I expected, that they are using an "improved" version of Pro-Tak. I liked Pro-Tak in Madden 10 and couldn't see all the hub-bub when people complained about it. It wasn't perfect but it was still a step in the right direction so I definetely expect improved versions in both of EA's football games, this year so I took it more as a positive than anything else. It made the game better.
Can't wait to hear more about NCAA 11.
