Sports Games: A New Way Forward Preview Stuck

I'm going to take a break from topical blogging next week to start a multiple part series on a new way forward for sports games in the face of a tougher market, shrinking sales, and in many cases, a more demanding audience. I've proposed there are several things broken in sports gaming over the last few months, from dynasty modes to difficulty levels to the ovr rating.

Next week I'm going to (hopefully) show how developers can start thinking outside of the box and propose a few things which all developers and publishers in sports gaming should be doing in this console generations' last few years.

Of course, if any news breaks, I'll chime in on it. However, look for 'A New Way Forward' to begin next week!

I say the game companies stop trying to please everyone in one game. The call many of their sports games sim but they dumb them down for the casual fans who don't stay around for the long run.

A casual fan is going to buy the game anyways because they like the sport. A hardcore sports gamer will stay away from a game out of frustration because the game isn't true to the sport they love.

Companies have to realize this because next their DLC sales are going to hit rock-bottom because the hardcore fans will not support it and the casual fans will have moved on to the latest talked about game.

Haha, believe it or not I'm going for a specific message with that headline image. The sun is setting on the old system...or is it rising on a new one? Are the dark clouds an omen of a storm brewing or leaving? Is the sky blue or is it not?
