Games on the Hotseat Stuck
Posted on February 16, 2010 at 03:41 PM.
2009 was a make or break year for several games, and a couple -- NCAA Basketball and possibly NHL 2K -- didn't make the cut. I think this year is a huge make or break year for three titles in our genre specifically. Check out my list of 3 and respond with your own thoughts:

1. NBA Live 11
NBA Live is in a position where it must perform this year. NBA 2K is absolutely killing Live in sales and it still has an edge -- some would still say quite sizeable -- in quality. While Live is a long running title for EA Sports, so was NASCAR and we know how that turned out. If Live can't improve on sales, it could be the next to go for a company who's new business motto is less titles, bigger sales per title.

2. NHL 2K11
It is not confirmed whether we will or will not see NHL 2K11. However if the title is released, given the speculation this year, you can't help but think the title HAS to perform this year. While 2K10 may or may not have been the last year of the series, I have a hard time seeing how 2K11 won't be.

3. NCAA Football 11
Given the current lawsuits working their way through the courts, NCAA Football 11 is, by default, on the hotseat. It isn't due to a lack of quality nor a lack of sales, but rather outside forces which could end up threatening the series' future. For that reason, NCAA is on the hotseat this year until we get some resolution in the courts system. Performing well in sales and quality won't hurt it's chances though.

Not 2K11? With all the glitches this year, they better hope the get it right, Not sure about Live though, because of the Wang loss, are they expected to be better.

The Wang thing also relates to 2K in the opposite manner.

I would also agree about NCAA Football 11.

Hmmm. I wonder if this is just EA Sports going down the tube, or if the entire EA brand is gonna default soon...

I dont see NHL 2K11 coming out they are getting murdered by EA. There are alot of things 2K would have to fix and that is coming from someone who plays the both games.

I think NCAA 11 is on the hotseast even without the lawsuit. To me, it brought up the rear this year with how much sports games that I buy improved.

Compared to all the rest it just feels "yesterday."

Yeah, NCAA has really stagnated recently in terms of improving year to year.

I love NCAA but it's definitely on the HOT SEAT... sitting right next to MLB2k on the hot seat..

How about any Sports title that moves developmentally sideways rather than FORWARD!!

I don't think MLB 2K is on the 'hotseat' as I am defining it -- a game which might not be here next year. I'm pretty sure MLB 2K will be back at least until the exclusive deal is done, but in terms of games that need to perform or face a bleak future, MLB 2K would be on that list without a doubt.

Seems like ncaa and live are on the "hot seat" every year, and every year they are crap. I do not personally see anything changing for the 2011 versions.

I predict EA drops basketball completely before NBA Live is a slam dunk again. And yes, I know all about the "improvements" ob nba live 10.

NCAA11 can't be on the hotseat simply because there are no repurcussions if the game is lackluster again other than sales..EA will still put out the product because it's the only NCAA football game in town and face it we all love college football..I agree with the other games on the Hotseat because there are repurcussins in that gamers will just buy the "other" game..
