Am I crazy? You decide. Stuck

I posted a poll question on this not long ago, but I want to revisit it in the form of a blog.

So the question, "If you could choose just one, which of these football games would you buy?"

Assume a few things: both games feature the exact same selection of modes and features, it's just the gameplay and presentation which are different.

A)Game A is a game which features the best presentation yet in a sports game to date which would fool even the most skilled viewer into thinking they are watching a real game. The gameplay, however, is far from perfect but is still ok. We'll compare the gameplay to the gameplay in Madden or NCAA of last year as it has some definite flaws but is still very much functional.

B)Game B is a game which features the best gameplay we've seen yet in a football game, everything you could dream of x's and o's is possible in the game. However, the presentation is so bad, Madden 06 could possibly feature better presentation. There are a few graphics glitches and such and the commentary and 'TV style' menus are just atrocious. The graphics? Well, you'd think you were watching some sort of a cross between a PS2 and PS3 game...was there a PS2.5?

I'm interested to hear the responses. I'm pretty sure I know which way most OSers will lean on this one, but I may still be suprised. Remember, you can only choose ONE game out of the two!

That's a tough call. I'd probably go with Game A but end up liking neither long term. I love presentation and the game is still functional. Lousy presentation and graphics can lead to a boring experience even if the gameplay is good.

I look at 2K5 and Madden 05. 2K5 had great presentation but I felt the gameplay had some huge flaws imo. I found less flaws in Madden 05 but the terrible presentation really turned me off over time. Neither filled my football void. Can I select none of the above?

B, gameplay is most important to me.

I'd like to say that I would buy game B, but I would most likely buy game A. This is because when High heat baseball came out every year, I always bought one of the other games first, like World series 2k. Same with the NBA series, even though college hoops was normally better in the xbox/ps2 days, I only bought it after I got sick of NBA 2k, because as much as I liked the gameplay, I would always prefer to play against kobe than Reddick. It wouldn't have been to hard to create NBA players and play them in college hoops but why would I go through that when I already had a decent game. Now this does hinge on the fact that the gameplay in game A does not make me want to throw the controller into a wall, and is at least a playable game.

Game A. 100%.

As much as I love my sim and text based games, I get too easily distracted by poor presentation. In real life, it's the aesthetics of it all that make a game: the sights, sounds and smells. At least in the game setting you can attempt to replicate the colors, uniforms, setting, lighting, etc . . .

I remember way back when you could set a certain game (that will remain nameless) to "Broadcast" and play the entire game that way: I would do it just for the effect of watching "my game" like it was on TV (even though it'd mess with my head to no end -- trying to equate what direction to push the d-pad to mean "forward").

I did not vote in the original poll, and while I have a feeling that most people will choose Game B, I will say Game A all the way. I guess I'm one of the few who likes NCAA Football 09's gameplay, but even if I estimate a worse-playing game, I still know that I will be more interested to play a game with unprecedented presentation. We used to imagine the future of video games and expect them all to look and feel just like their real-life counterparts, but I now see that developers will probably never get it right, especially as effort has diminished and they still make big money on sales. It's a business, and it's not necessarily their incentive to make it look as real as possible, but still. If it happens, I will be more interested and probably enjoy the game more.

A, if you get solid gameplay, and the whole package on top of that. Incredible gameplay is top priority, but if the rest of the game is so horrible that it doesn't draw you in, then the game won't be fun no matter how real it plays.

Not going to lie OS, I am SHOCKED at the responses thus far. SHOCKED!

Game A. Perfect example...hockey this year.

NHL 2K9 has an intermission report and is a little more TV style to me.

NHL 09 looks and plays a helluva lot better.

I went with 2K9. (Plus they had multiplayer dynasty)

Gotta go with GAME A! In the end...after hours of play, you would less likely to tire of a game that kept you immersed inside of it with it's lifelike presentation and graphics, as well as, the presentation feedback by the network fashioned menus and game reports. The longer I "FEEL" like I'm connected to the real thing, longer I'll keep "PLAYING" game A!
If Game B has impeccable mechanics and gameplay but, hurts your eyes until you have a headache due to the excruciatingly inept commentary and out of bounds catches...LOL You'd get too mad & feel like your integrity has been insulted, to play for more than a couple/few online matches...then you're throwin' back shots. GAME A! Far & Away!

Even though I have gone on record as saying that gameplay is what matters to me most, I think that I actually end up playing Game A because that game has the "It" factor that just draws you in. Great presentation, especially in sports games, is a very rare thing these days and I believe that Game A's little details and presentation will have me coming back for more, even though the game plays just "okay", I'll have end up enjoying Game A much more.

hard call!!i play a lot of Football Manager which is totally immersive but has no graphics at all!!!!i love the fifa series because i can play as my team wolves, but up until the last couple of years i played PES because the game play was so much better despite the lack of official teams and it's shoddy commentary.I suppose my answer would be-buy both!!!cheers stench

# 12 RaychelSnr @ Nov 21
Now Stench, you know I said it was against the rules to pick both! One or the other!

Tough call, I'm a presentation/graphics whore, so I'd have to go with A. It would really frustrated me having a game that played so amazing but was presented so poorly.

I was lost for 4 hours last nite staring at letters, numbers and a badly drawn football pitch with some little discs running around on it,so it's gotta be the gameplay-game number 1 it is!!!

I'd have to say game A. Gameplay is most important to me but gameplay without presentation is horrible
