The Fictional 20-Team Playoff Has a Championship Game Stuck
Posted on February 26, 2013 at 09:40 AM.

Hey guys, last week was an incredibly busy news cycle so I wasn't able to get this sim completely done last week as planned. I simulated the semifinals yesterday and am simulating the championship later today.

It's been incredibly fun to see NCAA Football 13 simulate a playoff that was set up very close to what we see in FCS football. To me it brings home the point that a 20 team playoff or more would be a gigantic event for college football, in a way we honestly probably can't fully grasp just yet.

Incredibly, through the simulation, we've seen a Cinderella team (Boise State), we've seen upsets such as Florida State over Notre Dame, and there have been some amazing matchups -- and great games. Even more exciting, it seems like the two best teams from this last year (by most accounts) have made it through the bracket to play one another for all the marbles.

Maybe there's something to this whole playoff thing after all? Let's go to the results!

Oregon vs. Florida State (Fiesta Bowl)

In our first Netural site game, we see the first of two east vs. west games (or rather southeast vs. northwest games). From the beginning, Oregon controlled this game. Macrus Mariota found both Josh Huff and De'Anthony Thomas for a pair of first quarter touchdown passes to lift the Ducks to a 14-0 lead. Another touchdown scamper by Mariota in the second quarter made it 21-0 at halftime.

Florida State rallied with a touchdown to open the second quarter, as EJ Manuel found Rashard Green from 11 yards out for a touchdown. However, after another Oregon three and out, disaster struck Florida State as a 77 yard punt set the Seminoles up on their own two. The next play, Manuel was sacked in the end zone for a safety. 23-7 ducks. Oregon then added a touchdown but the PAT was blocked. 29-7 Ducks midway through the third quarter. A Florida State touchdown in the fourth quarter with a failed two point conversion made it 29-13, and a late Oregon field goal sealed the deal. 32-13 Ducks.

Alabama vs. Boise State (Orange Bowl)

Cinderella vs. Goliath. We've seen this matchup many times before in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament to fun results. This time? AJ McCarron, Eddie Lacy and the Crimson Tide defense made this one a snoozer. McCarron was 21-26 for 336 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions while Lacy ran for 188 yards and two touchdowns of his own. The Tide also held Boise State to a measly 183 yards of total offense.

The Tide built a 35-7 halftime lead with 21 points coming off of Boise turnovers. Alabama cruised to a 55-10 victory to advance to the National Championship game. 55-10 Crimson Tide.

Who do you have winning the fictional but still fun to speculate about digital championship game? Alabama or Oregon?
