Two Weeks Later...I'm still playing the Show, a lot. Stuck
Posted on March 16, 2009 at 01:51 PM.
I must admit, when I gave MLB 09: The Show a 9.5, I kind of figured I'd be playing the game quite a bit (hence the high score). But I'm now over 50 games into my first season, playing every game.

When you take into account I have had to study for midterms and make a move back home for Spring Break...I have had less than ideal time for gaming. So I'm personally shocked that I have played the game this much.

A few things I wished I could've talked about in the review if I had more time with the game (although I must say I stand by my score 100%):

  • It seems like the ball strike ratios are a little heavy on the strikes...after 50-something games.
  • My home run numbers are way down, maybe I still just suck at hitting? But I can't seem to get the ball to fly out of the park like the computer can.
  • The more I pitch, the more I love the pitching system. This is how you make a game that gives you control but one that still plays to your players ratings.
So what do you think? It has been nearly full two weeks after the game has been released, are you liking the game more, less or about the same as the day you bought it?

I haven't had time to play because of midterms etc. I've played about 10-15 games, and I agree with the homerun bit, but yeah, definitely a good rating you gave. I'm waiting for the season to start before I start my franchise, simply because last year, I had roster issues. (This year, I was going to start my franchise with the Giants before Manny signed with the Dodgers, which would have been a huge roster problem) I can't wait to start my franchise though.

I've "only" played about 17 regular season games for around a total of 25 games or so. That's pretty good for me so far too.

I'm loving '09 a lot more than '08. I've probably grown to like the game more as I played it. My only beef is the lack of errors and how the fielding error slider works (or doesn't work). Other than that, the game is stellar!

I've played about 20 games or so and find that it is tougher to hit the long ball this year (on All-Star). The pitching is great. I'm still tweaking sliders, but I'm generating great games and sim stats (save for the lack of homers).

im still addicted to this game as if its the 1st day i got it! still in spring training...have about 10 games left before i start the season. trying to get in 3 games a day, but its tough esp since each game takes about an hour! this is by far the MOST i've ever played ANY game, esp 2 weeks after I got it

Addicted. Play it every day and am only waiting on the rosters form Knight to start my franchise.... Love this game.

I'm addicted to the game as well. I'm about half way through my first season, already promoted to AAA and played a few MLB games while some players were hurt. This years RTTS just seems a lot more polished than last years- and I actually find hitting easier this year.

As far as homeruns go, I've noticed that you have to be very patient, and wait for pitches in your wheelhouse. I like playing with the hotzones on, so maybe this will help. You just have to be patient at the plate and wait for breaking pitches to break in the zone. After about 50 total games played I've hit 10 homers, and am batting .330. Pretty realistic homerun stats to me considering my power against lefties and righties is only about a 57.

I like it more every day... You nailed your review man, this game is a masterpiece and all sports fans, baseball fans, and gaming companies should experience The Show.

anyone know if the rosters will be updated & can be downloaded when they're finalized by opening day? i'm almost done w spring training, but I want Oliver Perez in my rotation as well as Manny on the Dodgers etc. I want to start my season w all the real-life rosters to make it as authentic as possible ;P
Also, as far as homeruns, its not the easiest. you have to be really LOCKED-IN on the pitch & time it just right. i keep swinging 'just early' & missing fastballs right down the middle. frustrating, but it makes the game more fun/realistic

I love this game..... OFFLINE. I play on HoF and have great games all the time. CPU is so challenging. I love it. I actually think that compared to every other baseball game I've played, the ball/strike ratio is really good in '09.... especially if you have patience at the plate. Seriously though, this game is an absolute JOKE online. If you're not running into horrible lag, you run into crazy glitches. I hit a homerun online today and did not get credit for it..... Seriously, WTF? Also, it doesn't seem possible to check your swing online. '08 ran better online than '09 does... and that is absolutely unacceptable, especially with the big hit in graphics that '09 takes online. Offline though, I can't get enough of this game. Simply phenomenal.
