Profiling the New FBS Schools: South Alabama Stuck
Posted on December 17, 2012 at 11:42 AM.

Every day this week, I'm going to profile one of the new schools that could be in NCAA Football 14 (or new schools that were included in NCAA 13) and give some basic pros/cons and background info on each program. So if you are a real college football fan or simply a digital only (or both) hopefully these guides have some real use for you!

University of South Alabama Jaguars

Location: Mobile, Alabama
Enrollment: 15,007
Conference: Sun Belt
Stadium: Ladd Peebles Stadium (33,471)

Program History: South Alabama's football program began in 2009, and it took two years to finally lose a game for the program. South Alabama went 6-4 last year playing a mixture of Sun Belt, FBS, and FCS teams. This year, with a mostly full slate of FBS opponents, the Jags slipped to 2-11.

Program Status: There is plenty of talent in the program, and you can bet that you can challenge for the Sun Belt almost instantly.

Pros: In a great location for recruiting, good stadium, good starting recruiting base.

Cons: Will have to settle for being a fourth choice or more of most recruits, facilities won't match up to other schools in region, job is probably no more than a stepping stone job.

The Verdict: South Alabama is a good starter program, but the chances of you sticking with the Jaguars and winning multiple National Titles is slim. You could possibly become a BCS buster eventually, but the Sun Belt has taken a step back as a conference with several prominent members leaving for C-USA. But South Alabama is definitely a fun and exciting challenge to take on.
