Wii U Launch Window Sports Titles Guide Stuck
Posted on November 13, 2012 at 12:10 PM.
The Wii U is coming and with it comes a decent haul of sports gaming titles. While every game isn't equal, and some will likely disappoint heavily being console launch titles, here are the top games you should be looking out for if you are buying a Wii U at launch:

1. ESPN Sports Connection -
There is no Wii Sports in the lineup, but ESPN Sports Connection looks to be the closest thing you can find. Published by Ubisoft, the game features six sports in all: soccer, football, baseball, tennis, golf, and karting. Now whether the game can live up to Wii Sports all-time greatness remains to be seen -- but it might offer a fitting replacement for now.

2. FIFA Soccer 13 - The most popular sports franchise is also coming to the Wii U and the chances are at least decent that the game is pretty ok. The Wii U gamepad additions should be pretty cool and the Online Connectivity being promised sounds like it could be pretty solid. I'm watching and hoping.

3. NBA 2K13
- While historically, 2K Sports hasn't had the best efforts on non-major consoles -- I'm decently optimistic about NBA 2K13's prospects on the Wii-U. We just received a large sum of information on the Wii U version yesterday. Being able to see how things are developing on the court, your hot and cold zones, as well as coaching options are all huge perks for the Wii U version of the game. My biggest question is will the gameplay experience make the transition. NBA 2K13 is, after all, driven by perhaps the best gameplay in our genre.

4. Madden NFL 13 - The EA team has done a marvelous job on implementing features that were obviously screaming to be added when the Wii U was announced. Things such as touch screen controls, drawing up your own plays and more will be included. However, no infinity engine means the gameplay isn't going to feel as up-to-date as it's 360 and PS3 brethren. When asked about the lack of the infinity engine, Madden Wii U's producer Yuri Bialoskursky commented on the decision, "A lot of times, new hardware comes with new challenges."

Also no ultimate team in the Wii U version. Bummer.

Other Titles:

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013 -
These games can go either way, from being pretty ok to downright atrocious. Wii U functionality could really help.

Rapala Pro Bass Fishing - It seems like fishing games peaked on the 16-bit console generation and since then they haven't quite been as good as they once were. But I'm always up to give a new game a try on a new generation.

Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013 -
These have always been some of the best fitness games, I'm very interested in how the Wii U's gamepad will integrate into the whole experience.

Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed - There has to be a Kart Racer at a console launch, that's a rule of gaming. The quality of these games, however, is always a toss-up.

Sound off: Which launch window sports title for the Wii U are you looking forward to most?

Good Launch line up for sports considering its a "Next Gen"/New system and the sports gaming release season is pretty much over for this year. I'll look to see what they produce once there is a full dev cycle.
