Forget Madden. Forget NBA 2K.
Forget them all. FIFA Soccer is the unquestioned king of sports games, and it's not even close.
FIFA Soccer 13 sold 7.4 million copies in four weeks. That's more than any other sports game will sell in a whole year. Yes, read that again. Not even Madden can boast that sort of a performance ever. FIFA Soccer 13 is the fastest selling sports game ever and currently perhaps the top selling game of the year of all games.
In a recent interview with IGN, EA Sports head man Andrew Wilson attributed the sales successes of the brand to, "As a team we got together over the last couple of years and said ‘listen, we really need to focus in on what’s important and focus in on what gamers want out of us to ensure our long term health and growth.’ And it’s worked very well for us.”
FIFA 13 is the most wide ranging sports game across the world, it is this worldwide audience that allows the franchise to flourish. The title appeals on the three major gaming continents: America, Europe, and Asia and it does so with a quality experience that offers an accessible yet fun experience. No other sports game has that sort of reach -- and it's why FIFA is the unquestioned worldwide leader in sports gaming.
EA's digital business did well with FIFA as well, with the title earning over $65 million with downloadable content. FIFA Ultimate Team is, of course, the driver of that revenue as the mode is wildly popular among online players.

More sales just means that a better SELLING product not that its a better quality product. Like people have said singers like Shania twain or bette middler or katy Perry hsve sold way more records than what would be known or acclaimed as the best bands or singers. Its all about mass appeal but fifa is a great game no doubt about it but greatest i disagree

FIFA makes NBA2K and Madden look robotic. Those sports are more complicated, harder to re-create in a video game. Soccer is simple and pretty. FIFA has made strides this generation, while Madden has had its worst generation by far. I still think NBA2K can battle it out with FIFA, as can The Show, but in the end FIFA edges them out with the vastness of the sport. So many leagues and players, and the action on the pitch feels organic compared to these other sports games.

What we think is good or bad about FIFA is not the question at hand, save that for the impressions thread.
The real issue here is the amount of progress EA Canada has made with FIFA from being second best in Soccer gaming (just a console generation ago) to the best selling sports title for like what? 3 years in a row?
They have been making a consistent and quality product over the last few years and fact is the majority loves it.
It may be true that PES had declined (until PES 2013, which btw is awesome!) but FIFA did get a lot better, they actually invested their efforts in making a fantastic product.
Its just fun to play and they got a winning evolving formula.
EA Sports is indeed gangnam style!
