What will NCAA 13 have to do to get high marks? Stuck
Posted on July 5, 2012 at 03:03 PM.

NCAA Football 13 is coming oh so very soon, and for the sake of openness and honesty, I've got a list of things I'm looking for in the game to really put it over the top this year.

Here's a few items from my rather long list:

  1. The gameplay has to feel fresh in some way. I can't play one or two games and feel like I've done this before. This worries me and it could easily be the case.
  2. Dynasty mode, for all it's improvements, has to not be clunky. Recruiting, I feel, was very close to feeling that way already. EA is trying to strike a very delicate balance between depth and accessibility and I have to keep that in mind and judge them based upon that. A well designed Dynasty recruiting mode would, IMO, allow you to spend 10 minutes or 1 hour a week on recruiting and still be pretty effective both ways.
  3. The presentation, well it has to be slightly better. From the demo, it's plain the Presentation hasn't taken a huge leap forward but what I'll be checking for are stadium sounds, commentary, better cut scenes that might not have made it in, etc.
  4. Is this NCAA Football 13 or 12.5? Does the game feel significantly different to warrant another $60 for fans.
  5. How is the AI? Where are the improvements really being felt with time?
  6. Ditto for the passing game, are the new ideas game-changing or just a distractive gimmick with time?
  7. Is defense fun to play or does it still suck? My thoughts on this are I can't rate a game too highly if half of it is just flat out boring/stale.
Needless to say, NCAA 13 has some serious questions to answer to prove me a believer. This is just the short version of my checklist...we'll see how things are shaping up when I get my hands on the game soon!

I agree with your list, but would add simply this

WORK CORRECTLY! For the first time in a decade I am not purchasing this at release, but will wait to hear reviews and more importantly read the forums here. Same goes for Madden and NHL.

Wow. Great Post. Your number one point is so critical across the board for all upcoming EA games for me. NCAA, Madden, and NHL have to feel different or the loyalists like me may be done

It needs to look/feel/play better than anything I have seen in the DEMO and todays livestream. Right now my bet is on it being feeling like it's predecessor rather than a true 13.

Online Dynasty. Does it work correctly and mostly free of errors, especially major errors, like transfer failed, and the recruiting bug for online recruiting.

That would make this game eons better.

Just remember Toys r Us and Amazon. As long as Toys R Us makes the games $44.99, Amazon will price match (except Madden, but you get a $15 credit toward anything else on amazon). Amazon will have day of shipping for a dollar, and Toys R Us should allow you to order online and pick up in the store. They did this with Tiger 13, NCAA 13, and now NHL 13 also.

The demo seemed a little better than ncaa 12, but I didn't feel the college game experience that I expected. Maybe the real game will give me this.
