Five Cities Most Likely to Host a CFB Playoff Championship Game...
Posted on July 2, 2012 at 12:40 PM.
The new college football playoff will be bidding out it's host city much like the NFL does with the Super Bowl. Of course, this brings up the question of which cities will be looking to host the inagural game, here's a list of five possible suitors to the game:
Dallas, TX -Is there any question about this one? Heart of Big XII country, Jerry Jones' ego, palace of football awesomeness in Jerry World, no doubt Dallas is one of the cities at the top of the list.
Atlanta, GA -Call it the SEC's top choice. Host of the artist formerly known as the Peach Bowl, already the host of the SEC Championship -- Atlanta seems a natural fit for the game.
Indianapolis, IN -This one makes too much sense as well. It's in the Heart of Big Ten country, I'm sure there will be pressure to try to get a National Championship game played in the northern half of the US by Big Ten power brokers.
Detroit, MI -Ditto with what I said above. I have no doubts either Indy or Detroit will host one of the first few games. But the first one? Maybe, maybe not.
Los Angeles, CA - I'm not sure if the Rose Bowl committee can put together a reasonable bid for the game (or if they even would), but I could see LA trying to get the inaugural game. It would be kind of a symbolic passing of the torch. The Rose Bowl was birthed in 1902 and the Playoff was agreed to 110 years later, in 2012 and will begin on the 112th anniversary of that first Rose Bowl game. So lots of meaning there.
Other Cities That Could Eventually Host the Game
Houston, TX
New Orleans, LA
Phoenix, AZ
Seattle, WA
Miami, FL
Jacksonville, FL
St. Louis, MO
Pittsburgh, PA
Cleveland, OH (brrrr)
Chicago, IL (brrrr x 2)
Do you have any others to add onto the list?

Depending on the success of the Super Bowl in New York in 2014 (strictly speaking weather because it will rake in a huge sum of money), I could imagine New York/New Jersey making a bid. One city I would replace (based on the multitude of complaints following their Super Bowl host several years back) is Jacksonville. In their place I would insert Tampa, as they have also hosted several Super Bowls. Also Landover, Maryland would be an obvious choice (having the national championship in the nation's capital).

I agree strongly with 65 South. Indy would be a prime location. I disagree a little on the competition with Dallas though. The last 2 Super Bowls proved Indianapolis has an upper hand when it comes to hosting sporting events except for the unpredictable weather. Everything for the Super Bowl was right down town. There was plenty of lodging and dining within walking distance of Lucas Oil Stadium. Texas Stadium is in Arlington and a considerable distance from downtown Dallas.

In my opinion these games need to be played outdoors or at least in a stadium that can open up the roof. I can't stand domed games.

I love the choices mention of Jerry World's, Indy & Det. All would make for great locations. Here's one to throw out also but would probably get the Brr x3

I think this would be a huge coup to land this game. I attend Colts home games and went to the inaugural B1G Championship game last year and in terms of excitement and fandom, there was no comparison. I've been to college games before in places like Michigan versus lower opponents, but this was my first major college football game played between two heavyweights. There is such a passion in the following of college football that it doesn't really compare. From the tailgating, to seeing people of all age ranges from co-eds to their 80 year old counterparts supporting their school, it was unlike anything I've ever attended.
I'd love to see our city host the National Championship, but there's just something inside of me that doesn't see us landing this one. Whenever going up against the palace in Dallas it just makes it seem tough for me. Maybe it's the weather, maybe it's the way we lost our first bid for the Super Bowl to Dallas or maybe it's the shrewd business and influence that Jerry Jones can carry. When it boils down to it, the bottom line for college football bowl games is about one thing...money. Dallas' stadium can hold so many more fans which in turn produces more...money. But if we do have anything going for us, the city of Indianapolis, if anything, knows how to host a sporting event! I'll keep my fingers crossed.
