Despite no Infinity Engine, Three Reasons For Optimism With NCAA Stuck
Posted on June 25, 2012 at 11:54 AM.

I'll admit, NCAA Football 13 totally feels way too similar to NCAA 12 in so many ways. But there are some reasons to invest in the last of the old guard EA football games -- especially if you can find a discount somewhere.

1. Dynasty mode will easily be at it's best ever. - This is clear as day. Dynamic conference prestige, revamped and deepened recruiting, the coaching carousel which I'm sure has received numerous little tweaks...it's hard not to like what EA has done with the Dynasty Mode this season. I know it's one of the selling points of the game year in and year out and this year's edition is the best yet.

2. Gameplay didn't try to reinvent the wheel, hopefully it'll be more refined. There wasn't much that could be done with the ancient engine that's been (in some form or fashion) in EA Football games for years and years now, but I'm counting on the final product delivering an overall solid (but not spectacular and jaw dropping) effort. Those expectations are reserved for Madden. My play through the demo, yeah it felt like I've done it all before...but it also didn't feel like we were setting ourselves up for huge disappointments either.

3. Online Dynasty, Seriously Try It. If you haven't yet done so, do an online dynasty with friends. This is kind of a lame duck year for NCAA, but if the gameplay is solid and if you have some friends committed to the cause, there is NO reason you cannot have a fun time playing dynasty mode with some friends. The game itself will be no worse than solid, so you can spice it up before it gets the 'Infinity' treatment. It's awful hard to enjoy life by nitpicking it after all, leave that up to a guy like me...who is reviewing NCAA and I'm probably going to nitpick the game to death. I'm annoyed by way too much in the old guard of EA Football games I suppose.

So what do you think? Are you going to be buying NCAA and giving it a shot? Have you played an online dynasty yet?

Not sure if this has been discussed but if you intercept a ball near the goal line and get tackled into the end zone you are called for a safety and the other team gets 2 points plus the ball. I really hope this has been fleshed out in time for the final build. Super frustrating.

If Online Dynasty works like it did in NCAA 11, but with all the new additions and tweaks this year, then the game will most likely not be coming out of my console for quite awhile.

With point # with there being no export it madden it seems pointless to try to recruit and all that. Knowing that after 4-5 years those players are going to never be seen or heard from again. Makes me not care. I Don't play NCAA and Madden as separate games. I play them as halves of one game and if once half of the game is lacking then better to pass.

I am still going to get it in hopes to - if anything hold me over until Madden comes out. I am loving the new engine for Madden and hoping for a new game from them on that front. I have bought NCAA for the last 3 years and have been pretty pleased, so the game itself is pretty solid and the improvements are icing on the cake as it where. While I am sure there will be drawbacks to the NCAA title, I feel those will not be as glaring until Madden comes out.

I'm getting Ncaa Football 13 just for the Dynasty mode. I can play this all year.

Dynasty mode will be great but I have no interest in online dynasties. In some ways the gameplay did need to re-invent the wheel. The cpu offense hasn't been able to run anything other than a pro style offense and they don't get the ball in the hands of their real playmakers. A college game has to take advantage of their impact players and run the option. NCAA has failed to do that and it's a huge issue with me.

The lack of Infinity hurts too. The tackling in NCAA is not varied enough and I do think when people see Madden's engine they will be very jealous.
