Despite Vocal Disapproval of EA Football, Most Plan to Buy Stuck
Posted on June 20, 2012 at 12:34 PM.

It seems like a sport for many to hate on the EA Football franchises. And yes, with exclusivity locked up for both, I'm sure the reasons are solid (if not fundamentally flawed).

However, what is always surprising is despite the overwhelmingly strong voices of those who want to discount Madden and NCAA, most still plan to buy.

In our recent poll, most of you (80.5%) are planning on buying either Madden, NCAA, or both. Only 19.5% of respondents aren't planning on buying either game.

When you take into account the usual people who wouldn't buy a football game because it's, well football, you probably end up with an even smaller amount of people who would typically buy a football game but aren't going to.

To me, this is a big seal of approval for both games and their direction this year. I know similar polls in the past have had much higher amounts of people (30% or more) who said they weren't buying.

Is it the Infinity engine? The dynasty improvements in NCAA? Or is this simply the time people are most excited about the incoming football games and the results are skewed?

Interesting stats nonetheless.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. $45 is why I'm buying NCAA. If it doesn't work or the dynasty stuff is not to hype, I'll trade it for something and hopefully finish up my NCAA 11 2013 rosters to last me.

havent bought madden since 08. Being obsessed with 2k football and analyzing madden for the past 4 years and comparing it to 2k5, this year is finally different and I can't wait to pick this game up. This year is finally the year that madden beats 2k5. Those that do not agree will probably never end up liking a football videogame.

Its not EA or 2K it's MOSTLY sport related. If you are gamer and you enjoy football you are going to buy a football game plain and simple. If EA for some reason decided to make a nonlicensed football game this year and Activison made the license NCAA/NFL game. Which do you think would sell more. It wouldn't be a contest.

I am intrigued by the new direction of Madden but, I like to create 2 CAP brother QB's that play for the Browns and 49'ers but, that can't happen now so IDK. The overall game sounds great

If I waited around for the perfect game, I would never by one.

I guess some are more willing than others to donate $59.99 to EA for glorified patch called 2013. I mean really, In game updates? Care? and you finally added ball trajectories... and you fixed the psychic DB AI. Great... it was broken and you fixed in and now you're charging me 59.99.

TOTAL

JOKE

The title pretty much sums up why EA does whatever they want because people don't have the stones to actually pass on the games. I already spend the money that was going towards ncaa and madden on other games and since i never deviate from my pre set game budget these two wont be bought this year.

I've been a solid buyer of both games dating back to 2002. But, the edit issue/lack of immersion is the key for me. And now that I'm a dad and husband, my time is not as flexible as it used to be. With the return of the editing and importing features in next year's versions, then I will be more willing to find the time to play. But, I'll just stick with last year's releases for now.

Madden sales go down each year expect 13 to take a bigger hit regardless of the os poll

It all comes down to this basically...

You can complain, put up poll votes, jump on the Hate EA bandwagon but It's not gonna change a thing. They have exclusive rights to both NFL and NCAA, and until that changes you're gonna get the same, year after year, game with sparkly new features that they should have sorted out years beforehand.

I think most have forgotten the anguish caused by NCAA 12. Now that it is that time of year, some are going to pony up their cash in exchange for more transfer failed messages and other glitches. The smart money is to wait and find out if this year's round o' glitches affects the manner in which you play the game. If so, don't buy. To blindly purchase this year's copy without having heard from the community (after they have already played it for 1 wk-1 mo) would be foolish.

@ Platinum. Well written. I carry that same feeling. I have been gaming for 30+ years and remember days before patches, no ability to edit players (which is the newest reason to hate EA) and even before real teams were in games.

Today, so many people are overly critical and seem to spend more time digging for flaws than enjoying games for what they are.
