Some Thoughts On EA Freestyle Stuck

EA Freestyle is an interesting new direction for EA to take if they choose to continue creating games in the same mold as 3 on 3 NHL Arcade.

As I said in my review of 3 on 3 NHL Arcade, the gameplay is technically VERY solid. The problem with the game is that the resources just weren't dedicated to it and the game suffers from a lack of depth because of that.

In my (very) humble opinion, EA should look into doing something like this for the rest of their titles, except they should be sure to introduce some sort of a league or tournament system into the game -- something, anything to give the gamers a reason to play the game longer.

3 on 3 NHL Arcade is a game that I was neither happy or disappointed about, it is what it is. I enjoyed the first 10 or so games and actually was considering a much higher score at first, but the game just didn't have anything else to offer. Even at $10, the bang for the buck isn't there.

So my suggestion to EA Freestyle games going forward? Make sure you don't violate gaming law #1: give the gamers something to play for.

Honestly, I think you're being a bit harsh on this game. For $10 you get what you should get - something you and some friends can pick up and play pretty quickly. IMO this game shines as a party game where you have some friends over and you take turns playing each other.

Again for $10 I don't think you can expect it to have too many features. Between it being a fun game and it having online play, I think you get your money's worth.

When your game is advertised as being all about the "3 on 3 experience" and you can't even do that without having those teams of three coming from the same console, your game dropped the ball, regardless of what price it's launching at.

Add online team play ala NHL '09 to 3 on 3 NHL Arcade and it goes from a 6.0 to an 8.0.

Add customization of players/teams and it goes to a 9.0

Add franchise modes or online leagues/tournaments and it goes to a 10.0

I hope future "Freestyle" games step up their game and give people more than just a rush-job with no features.
