Dissecting E3 Monday: Notes of the News Stuck
Posted on June 5, 2012 at 11:49 AM.

E3 Monday's are typically busy news days -- and yesterday was no exception. I felt like the lone Texan left in the Alamo with news hitting faster than I could process it yesterday afternoon -- but after about 18 hours of contemplating, there are some themes from yesterday's news barrage that seem pretty clear...

Real Time Physics Is A Big Deal but it's not going to fix everything wrong with EA Football. The passing game will be improved and I'm sure the running game will be better with physics. Just be forewarned, while EA Football will take a huge step forward with Madden NFL 13 it's not going to cure everything that ails the series.

SHOCKER! EA has more money than THQ! At least, that was apparent when the dust settled. EA simply came to THQ and named a price for the UFC license and then got it. The person that looks most foolish in all of this: Dana White. Proof that you should never say never when it comes to business.

Connected Careers Is Either Brilliant or Will Be A Complete Disaster. That's the best way to describe it. I either see it being something that's going to change how we play sports game career modes forever or it's going to be something that is a complete and utter failure on the level not seen in a long time. I'm betting it falls towards the former with weird quirks that weren't fully thought through. I've yet to hear if retiring a player means he's gone from the league or if you simply can change on the fly. If I have to remove RG III from the NFL before deciding to coach, this mode goes downhill in a hurry.

No more NCAA Draft Classes to Madden. This is going to irk a lot of people, but given the huge wholesale changes I could understand the reasoning. EA promises they'll be back next year, but that's just a rough omission for many.

NBA 2K13 looks solid but it's slam dunk competition is the butt of many jokes. I had many a famous gaming personality making fun of the slam dunk competition on my Twitter feed last night. For good reason too, but people have to understand 2K Sports is now under immense pressure to perform and they have to make the game marketable. A hardcore basketball sim vs. a ****** accessible sim won't last long in this marketplace. Especially when your parent company is looking for even the slightest of reason to drop licensed properties.

What'd all of you think about E3 Monday? Anything strike you as being big news I didn't touch on? Sound off!

I for one am a fan of having Superstar mode and Franchise mode COMPLETELY SEPARATE. I hope this mode works, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if it didn't. I would much prefer if they had improved the two modes and kept them apart, I just don't see how this makes any sense.

It's not wrong to say M10 sold the most copies, but selling 5-6 million copies isn't exactly a loss either. 5 million copies is still bringing in 300 million, that's not including sponsorships and other things that EA does to generate revenue. I'm fully expecting 13 to outsell 10 or for it to be much closer. 11/12 were stagnant entries to the Madden franchise.
