Tiger's Big Win a Big Boost to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13?? Stuck
Posted on March 27, 2012 at 11:25 AM.

It's not every week Tiger Woods wins a PGA Event...at least not anymore.

With his first win since 2009, Tiger got a huge monkey off of his back only to have it replaced by a gorilla. The questions are going to come fast and furious now.

"Can he do it again?"

"Was it a fluke?"

"Will Tiger ever win a major again?"

When you are the greatest athlete in your sport perhaps in history, it's not hard to see where the pressure is inevitable. It's like the God of the Bible, it's always present and never changing.

Remember this from EA Sports? While EA has backed off of such harsh talk since the Tiger saga began, usually what you see a company say first and back off of is usually what you see being discussed in board rooms anyways.

Tiger's win isn't enough if there's no follow up for sponsors like EA Sports, and it certainly doesn't signify he's back. Tiger is back in the same way that Luke Donald (winner of the previous week's event) has arrived.

One week doesn't make a superstar, unless that week is in Augusta or another major.

But what Tiger's win last week at the Arnold Palmer does do is give the game with his namesake a nice boost as it launches in stores nationwide today. For a few days at least, it seems as if Tiger Woods is everywhere again.

Of course, Tiger 13 has to follow up with solid gameplay and such to really get people on-board with the series -- but the Tiger games have rarely been anything less than above-average to good. The consumer will likely enjoy Tiger 13.

As far as how many extra sales Tiger 13 will generate with 'Tiger-Mania' sweeping the land in a bit of a suppressed fashion this week, only time will tell. But the win does help the series, and with a successful consumer release again this year -- it's hard to imagine EA dropping the Tiger name from its game right now.

But all of that is open to reconsideration if the gorilla isn't removed from Tiger's back. The only way that can be answered is how he performs at Augusta and beyond.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 is the recipient of a boost from 'Tiger-Mania'. If the gorilla is still around and Tiger doesn't win again this year (multiple times in fact), there will be even more people beginning to question if the aging Tiger Woods has finally lost his roar.

I'm getting Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 today and will share my impressions on this blog. I also can't wait to watch the action at August next week. That plus baseball opening....welcome home Spring!

I don't believe it matters. If you like golf, you will buy the game regardless. If you are like me and don't care for golf, it don't matter how many times he wins, it won't make me want to go out and buy a golf game.

If only EA could recreate the kind of excitement woods brings in real life.... The game would probably sell more.
