Chris Has a Madden Wishlist Too! (Part I) Stuck
Posted on February 2, 2009 at 07:27 PM.
It seems like every thread or story or feature or any discussion that even remotely mentions Madden NFL Football turns into a full-fledged wishlist thread by page 2. So what else could I do other than dedicate a full week towards what areas of the game I'd love to see the Madden guys really improve? Here are a few for today:

  • Generally Speaking, the Little Things are Missing - Madden has sucked at the little animations and the little things over the past few years. This has got to change and soon. The new feature announced yesterday is a good start, but it's going to have to be done correctly and fully.
  • Cut Scenes...where art thou? I just want to remind the Madden guys that a large percentage of what we see on Sundays in the NFL is not happening in the few seconds between a snap and tackle. Generally speaking...EA has absolutely sucked at these.
  • Atmosphere...Playoff Atmosphere...Just atmosphere. On Sundays, you can close your eyes and listen and you'll hear the crowd roar on big plays, they'll get loud when the opposing team is on defense, and each fan base has a few chants they perform religiously. There are also audio traditions, and all kinds of other neat quirks that aren't in Madden.
My suggestions today didn't even begin touching the core gameplay, so you know this list is going to get more fun as we go. What do you think about the areas I have just talked about? Be sure to chime in!

your ideas are good.
personally i would like to see refs on the field and interactive sidelines.
when players fall out of bounds the people on the sidelines should try to support them from falling.

Yes Chris. You've said it. This is what makes MLB The Show the absolute best sports game in my opinion. The game is so freaking ALIVE!!!!!!!!!

And I'm not a baseball guy.

That's it Chris, call 'em out. I think the devs are on the right track in getting our feedback and starting early rather than later in order to get a pulse of what the fans are looking for in next years title. I almost hate to have to use another title to demo what Madden needs, but MLB the Show should be the jump off point for the Madden devs. I know, I know.. let's be original and have original ideas for football - sure, I get that, but hey - Bottom line is the SCEA guys for baseball got it right for 08, more than likely the same for 09, so it can't hurt to give it a look. We have compared 2K's last football effort to Madden to death. Well, they herd us and have tried to deliver. Now it's time to switch gears (and sports) to demonstrate how it should work in a football game to actualy draw us in as gamers and fans.

Among so many other things that I have read, written and agree with, how about EA getting rid of the curse by putting the Lombardi trophy on the cover, along w/ a prominent player from each position, a head coach, an owner, and Mr. Madden himself back on the cover? A cover like that could make a statement about the depth of the game and EA's re-commitment to stepping up Madden football in all areas, not just one. Since EA came out with a lofty statement by saying they are going to deliver everything we see on Sunday's it would be fitting to have a cover that represents that. We all know everything that has to be fixed before they even think about cover art, so I won't go there! For EA to truly capture everything that we see on Sunday's, it better also include Monday's, Thursday's, late season Saturday's, training camp, the Draft, Mascots, Cheerleaders, orange tape/flags on top of the field goal posts being affected by the wind, trainers coming onto the field during timeouts to hydrate players, and so on and so forth. Everything needs to be covered in the finest detail. Just read the community report on the Show '09. That game is going to be incredible. Way to set the bar high SCEA!

I notice we all keep mentioning The Show and NFL 2K5.

God I hope they reference these two games!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe then we can get two major keys in bringing the game to life.....

Realistic and relevent cutscenes (The Show)

And TV presentation, especially a halftime show (NFL 2K5)
