PS Vita First Impressions Stuck
Posted on February 15, 2012 at 07:22 PM.

Sony's newest handheld launched today for many gamers who were willing to put out the money for a first edition bundle of the device, bundled with 'Little Deviants', a 4mb Memory Card, and a case for the Vita.

Pulling the Vita out of the box, the first thing I noticed is that it, indeed looks a lot like a PSP. But picking it up, it felt lighter yet it's bulkier -- a strange occurrence for sure.

As I set up the Vita, I noticed how easy and natural the touch screen felt. A few years ago (pre iDevice) this wouldn't have been the case. But now, you almost feel as if a screen is SUPPOSED to be a touchscreen.

Playing around with some of the settings, and I already have to update the Vita. I'm pretty sure that's a good thing though in our wireless society -- but just frustrating when I want to just play a game.

It took about 15-20 minutes to fully set up the Vita for gaming action. I then spent the last 30 minutes or so playing ModNation Racers on the console. It feels smooth, the controls aren't bad and the Vita fits in my hand relatively well. It's not a perfect fit for sure, but I was able to get plenty of races in.

I played around with the customization options in ModNation as well, the touch screen and touch back interface is intriguing to me on many levels.

The screen itself is neither too small nor too big. Graphically, I like where the system is. As with all hardware, the software takes a year or two to really figure out how to get the most out of it, so I'm excited to see where games will be graphically on the Vita in the future.

So far, so good. I like the Vita so far. I'm going to delve into the Apps and whatnot soon. I won't give a solid buy/no buy until sometime early next week, but there's a lot more positives than negatives for me thus far.

Did you get a Vita? What do you think?

It will come to about 340$ (give or take) per system when you figure in at least one game and 16gb's of memory. In my perspective, I think you are going to need at least 16. Better quality games = larger quantities of space required. I just want my MLB the Show, for transferring saves when traveling. This is going to be such an amazing feature. Cant wait for opening day!

i picked my up around lunch today, the Vita is bigger than it actually looks on the internet. I'm very impressed so far, Hot Shots looks really nice. I'll probably jump into Uncharted later and see how it plays.

I can't wait for The Show, I pre ordered it for both systems.

This is the perfect solution when you live with a chick and you only have one big screen because its an apartment. I might actually be able to finish a season this year. I'm pumped!!

@humaca80

Wait 7 months and get a Wii U for the same price.
