The Show Still Has Swagger Stuck
Posted on February 7, 2012 at 09:17 PM.

Today's fact sheet announcement from SCEA has MLB: The Show fans ready to rock and roll....mostly.

At the very least, I'm impressed with the additions mentioned -- especially considering the Vita version of The Show looks to be quite fully featured indeed, as we have heard and suspected for awhile. Here's my quick takeaways:

Real Ball Physics Will Be Awesome -- There will be some quirky bugs, but it'll be a huge step forward for the game, and it'll be entirely subtle.

TruBroadcast Presentations, Could be Amazing -- What will this feature really entail? I'm waiting for a dedicated video. Something tells me to anticipate greatly. If the commentary is improved and if the camera angles are true, look out -- GOTY candidate developing early.

Will Diamond Dynasty Catch On? It's The Show's answer to Ultimate Team modes. Some games these modes flourish, some they don't. Mostly, they function similarly, so it's more 'does this mode fit with the sport' kind of thing.

New Animations -- The animations we've requested most seem to be ready to make it in the PS3 version. It'll make for a subtly better looking game.

So what was your highlights and biggest disappointments of the fact sheet? Let me know by commenting on this post! Has your decision to buy/not buy the game been changed?

I'm probably gonna buy it doesn't seem like a huge step forward in the series but it is still worth the $60. I wonder if we have to pay for card packs in Diamond Dynasty like in Madden if that's the case the mode won't be very appealing.

TruBroadcast Presentations has me the most intrigued with New Animations being the close 2nd. I hope this is all the real deal as last year seemed stale for me for these 2 items on the list. Since you invest such a long time in the game itself, season being so long, games taking a bit of time to play - you get used to seeing the same stuff over and over, both broadcast and animations, this update could breathe a bit of new life into the title for some. I know it will for me. Looking forward to March for sure now.

Still no 3D grass....Still no true weather effects, like real rain, wind, hot and cold......the pitchers and players should tire faster in july and august when playing in hot weather.......rain delays & double headers......i'm hoping for MLB game highlights during the season like between innings and maybe cut in during games.......

Best game ever minus these improvements. A lock buy for me.

That guy looks like Georges St. Pierre

Player collision detection is a nice addition. I hope we can call off teammates going for the ball. Disappointed they didn't expand in the weather and offer rainouts. It's not a game killer though.

I'm a little bothered that long term finances weren't mentioned. I hope it's been improved over past years when, a few seasons in to your career, big name free agents would sit unsigned because no team could afford them. That is a glaring problem and I am disappointed it wasn't at least mentioned.

Can't understand what's so special about 3D grass! That's one of the most unimportant features a game should have. Plus, it doesn't make the game more fluidly in certain situations...

The revamped ball physics has me excited as I feel this is one of the most influential changes to improve gameplay for a baseball game. However, I'm still interested to see if the physics has been applied to bat-off-the-ball also. I'm really hoping we don't see guys getting jammed inside and still taking the ball deep the other way.

I have to say I am pretty disappointed as to what Diamond Dynasty mode mode turned out to be. Though it doesn't change that I love The Show and will buying it again.

I'm just as super excited as everyone for March 6th, but here are my biggest fears. The new ball physics and collision animations, as well as the new tag logic could cause some crazy early glitches. I'm hoping it's all good to go, but sometimes new implications cause miscues that need patching right away. Let's hope it's all as great as it sounds!! I'm sure it is. So excited.
