Skepticism Aside, Why I'm Slowly Warming up to Madden NFL 10 Stuck
Posted on January 30, 2009 at 09:25 AM.
It has been a love/hate/love kind of week for me in regards to our #1 man from Tiburon Ian Cummings. After yesterday's announcement about Madden NFL 10 info coming during halftime of the Super Bowl alongside a seasonal mission statement, I can honestly feel pumped about the future of the series. Here are some reasons why I am slowly getting excited:

  • When have we ever had this kind of access this early? If you answer anything other than never you are kidding yourself.
  • When have the Madden guys been so up front, frank and almost boastful about their goals for the game BEFORE we've heard anything about it? Again never.
  • Adding the Head Coach guys should mean a franchise that at least works more realistically than last season.
  • When have we heard Madden sucked last year and will be a ton better by developers? Ok...well that was last year too.
My point is yes, we have heard something like this before, but not ever this. Ian pretty much outright guaranteed success Joe Namath style yesterday and wants the community to hold them to what I read was the perfect simulation bar.

So what should you make out of this? Simple, hold them to that bar. Because if we do our part and they do theirs, this is going to be a fantastic year of Madden NFL Football. If they don't hold up their end, then the field day will commence across various forum communities online. They know the stakes are now higher, so let's see if they deliver like Broadway Joe did back in Super Bowl III.

I am official pumped! I haven't purchased a Madden game in 2 years. I only played it on someone's else system and was disappointed with them version. These new guys and EA new approach to the community and it's games are outstanding.

Where is the NCAA love and boasting?

I am on a biannual basis with Madden as it is, so my brother will probably buy the game regardless (as will flocks of other football fans). They can take the roasting from online forums; they already have NFL-deprived gamers eating out of their palms.

Also, having to purchase Head Coach to have access to the play creator is absolutely ridiculous. That's the one thing I want fixed, but it won't be, because cash is king... sorry, but I'm a little skeptical. Excited to see what we get, but skeptical.

I am currently flatlined regarding Madden. I finally recognize what MY issues are with Madden and why I enjoy NCAA College Football so much more. I am mainly a dynasty/franchise player. Madden for all of its graphical glory has no life. I need the ability to name and make my own coach who's record follows him(or her) wherever he goes. I need players who demand more money if they play well and threaten to not play. I need more flexibility in contracts (bonuses, frontload, backload)and negotiations. I need the significance of games to be apparent as the playoffs approach. I need playoff atmosphere. I need the coaches' record to indicate winning the division, conference, and superbowl. I need a better draft. Great teams with great personnel should crush bad teams. Bad teams with bad personnel should play....bad. Shutdown corners should shutdown receivers or in the least make you wary of throwing their way. If I draft/sign shutdown corners then my pass defense should indicate this. If I draft/sign defensive/offensive linemen that are great then there play on the field should indicate that the are great. If I upgrade personnel then it should show on the field. Job offers and Job dismissals for my created coach based on the record. I'm not asking for much. LOL

Great idea for next year!! Superstar Coach mode.
You start as a position coach, can only control players in that position, no control of signing, drafts, etc.
Next move up to o/d coordinator, can control everybody on that side of the ball, no control of team movement, etc.
Next, head coach, but still no team control
next, GM/head, coach and then finally owner/gm/head coach, where you could control team moves etc. This would give players an incentive to play multiple seasons, trying to work you way up to a better job. I'd rather have this mode than the dreadfull superstar mode now.

It's OK to holdem to a high standard but dont think this madden is going to have everything you want.
