Unsurprising News: OS'ers Pessimistic EA Footballs Future Stuck
Posted on January 30, 2012 at 06:13 PM.

In the poll I posted this morning, I raised the question of whether you guys thought that there would be a 'great' football game from EA Sports through the rest of this generation. You seem to have answered with an overwhelming no.

As of this writing, only 11% of you actually thought a great game was coming while 82% remained quite pessimistic to completely 'waiting and seeing' about the future for EA Football.

I can only bet that this basically revolves around the fact that most gamers on OS have become quite jaded towards EA football in recent years -- and for many it's for good reason.

But I'm wondering how much of the hate stems from people who have played the game for a long period of time vs. a shorter period of time. Think about it like this, I personally have played Madden and NCAA Football for years now, and I feel the games are just completely stale.

There's literally no way you can make the argument the game isn't to me.

But, and I'd like you guys who might be new to the series to chime in via the comments, what if you hadn't been playing the game for several years and simply played it for what it was? Do you enjoy the game? I theorize that the answer is likely yes to that line of questioning.

That's not excusing EA mind you. In fact, I feel it's an even greater indictment of how the series really just doesn't reinvent itself in a way that makes gamers want to keep playing -- but yet the game continues to sale at record pace.

So my final thought today -- why do so many people continue to buy into the series when so many of the series' most hardcore fans (the ones who actually go online to talk about it) seem to absolutely despise it at this point? Why such a disconnect?

What do you think?

We have no other football game to play except EA's.
You don't have to play the most recent Madden. You say there's no other football game to play except EA's and then you list a ton of football games. If you don't like the current madden don't play it. It's simple. Go play your 2K or whatever. You have the choice to play whatever you want.

There's always going to be something for people to latch on to and complain as to the reason why they hate a certain game. Nobody ever wants to point out anything that is ever done well, they just want to continue to debate that a game '7 years old' is still better.

Stale is a problem but so is the problem that many people enjoyed the PS2 games more than the PS3 games. This generation of football games by EA has never really pleased a lot of people. I have never loved a PS3 football game so now this series is getting stale and mediocre to where apathy has completely set in.

Ill tell you why....because somewhere along the lines people want to see nike cleats, headbands, hell player entrances like ncaa and madden instead of GAME PLAY. Sure the games look better...still nowhere where they should be but you cannot tell me that the last gen of sports game did not play better.

Im sorry if I offend you but I am so sick of people asking for useless **** like eye black on a players face. Sure the games need some presentation overhauls like atmosphere but not what some ask for. We need a new engine to account for physics, players not on ice skates, and an atmosphere where you actually feel your there. Sadly...but hopefully we will get that in the next systems...but we were also promised that in 2005...

I miss the days of 989 sports, 2k and EA and they all tried to make gameplay changes to better one another..now EA does gimmick **** that noone wants. I havent bought a madden since 07 sadly...

Stale with the on field part of the game, but when I think of how owner mode was better (and I don't mean a little) on a ps2 for years, thats just neglect... I know whats coming this year too, you watch, online franchise this year will get the same improvments as off. fran. did last year... Thats right, online franchisers will get the same broken system, broken trade logic and that poor excuse of a free agency bid system...

NCAA will have fewer release day and first week sales this year, at least in the US, than in 2011. Book it.

EA is a company that proves year to year that a deadline is a deadline and they don't care if the game is even finished and polished. Errors in gameplay and sound and commentary. That aside, the philosophy of EA has to change to provide a game of legendary status.

The game simply takes more effort and code to provide more game these days and perhaps 365 is simply too little time to offer that year to year. Perhaps EA tries to accomplish too much in too little time. Either way the philosophy is money and quality is a far second. The HYPE machine worries me as a quality game often balances on the 'barely' decent enough line.

The amazing things Madden can offer in its new look each year seems to change their approach year to year in such a way as reinventing it every year. As a fan of the NFL . . i have to ask why? build on a good foundation and stop adding and removing.

simply take Madden 12 and fix the problems and flesh it out fully. But we know that money is the issue. meaning they fear no one will buy it so they feel pressured to reinvent the game every year.

a new philosophy needs to happen for a GREAT game.
