Color Me Impressed - MLB '09: The Show is a Surefire Hit Stuck
Posted on January 21, 2009 at 12:01 PM.
All of the news coming out of the SCEA folks about MLB '09: The Show is nothing short of exciting. The AI fixes mentioned in this blog post at Playstation.com are all much needed but also much anticipated.

When you take into account the franchise mode fixes and additions which have also been announced, you already have a game which is going to be worth the price of entry.

I bought a PS3 just to play The Show this past year after hearing the enormous hype and rave reviews about the game. I guess I'm here to kick in the hype train here at OS into overdrive. I'm not only expecting The Show to be great, I just can't see how it won't be the best sports game of 2009.

So what are your overall expectations for The Show? Is anyone buying a PS3 just to play it this year?

I expect it to meet every expectation I have and be sports game of the year. Anything less will be a failure.

I'm getting pretty geeked myself.

With the rumored price reduction of the PS3 to $299, I might just buy it exclusively for this game. I love baseball and the 2K series sucks nuts. I loved MLB 08 on the PSP last year.

I bought the PS3 last year, like you, for the sole purpose of being able to play MLB '08: The Show. It is a purchase that I definitely do not regret. Not only was The Show the best baseball simulation to date, but the PS3 is great for other things as well, especially functioning as a Blu-Ray player!

Anyways, needless to say I am ridiculously excited for '09, and all of the announced changes/fixes/additions sound spectacular. The next month and a half is going to feel like forever!

I did the same thing MMChrisS, purchased the PS3 to play the best baseball game on the market. Plus having the PS3 for bluray movies clinched the deal.

The Show is a system seller, no doubt about it.

It will be the sports gaming title of the year I believe.

I've considered it, but it's hard to justify it when I already have a 360, PS2 and PSP. My money can be better spent elsewhere. I will be getting the game for either PSP or PS2, though, and I'm sure they'll be just as good as 08.

Has anyone heard if the stamina issues were addressed..i.e. players needing to sit out a day after only a week of the season.

Are the franchise additions (40 man, arbitration, etc) going to be on the ps2 version as well?

It looks like The Show is going to blow everyone away this year. Expectations are high, but I'm thinking they can deliver.

Great thoughts all around guys. Honestly, I feel ashamed for not voting The Show 08 as my game of the year. A couple more weeks of reflection have left me feeling that The Show 08 was without a doubt the best sports game last year. I think a lot of people forget how great The Show really is until we get back around this time of the year, when the anticipation starts building again. Needless to say, I am going to attempt to play every inning of a 162 game season again with The Show 09.

If anyone buys a PS3 just for this game they won' be sorry.

I love The Show and last year's version definitely was solid all-around. As far as The Show '09 goes, I would not be at all surprised if this year's edition of The Show snags Game of the Year.
