Finally, Madden gamers everywhere got a look at the newly revamped Franchise mode in Madden NFL 12 this morning via the missives of Josh Looman.
However, for the ADD crowd (and for those who somehow want to hear what I have to say, funny thought I know) here's what I thought of each announcement in the blog in a slightly revamped 'What's Hot/What's Not' style.
What's Hot
Franchise Mode Dynamic Player Performance - This is an interesting addition which will either make or break Madden NFL 12. If it works as described -- not always the case with new features -- then players will play realistically inconsistent (or consistent). This might allow some teams to get red hot that probably aren't that good while others go ice cold (see: 2010 Cowboys).
Expanded Rosters and Cut Days - Let's face it, we all have been waiting for this. Hip, hip, hooray!
New Free Agent Bidding Feature - If this works like it did in Head Coach (but better) then this is a big time change for the better.
Trading Future Draft Picks - Finally I can be an irresponsible GM/Owner.
Progression Tuning - Anything other than last year's system is a step up. Ok yeah, that's probably a lie, but how its described (progress vs peers) is so much better than last year it's really as if last year's progression system was a sick joke.
The Wait and See
New Rookie Scouting System - Yes, it's something new...but I'm really cautious on this. It sounds as if rookies are going to be arbitrarily locked out in terms of info in an unrealistic manner. Every draft room board has physicals on every player....if nothing else you should have that info.
Player Roles - I like the idea behind this, but let's see the execution. This can either add another layer of depth and strategy to franchise mode or it can be a useless gimmick. The jury is out.
Increased Injury Chances and Injured Reserve Fixed - I'm getting the 'overdone for $500 Alex' feeling here. But if done right then huzzah, victory! If nothing else, it's a good thing to have IR working right.
Franchise Mode Dynamic Gameplans - Having a team adjust to personnel is a good thing. Want to really impress me? Have a team adjust to coaches and coordinators in a dynamic universe.
Revamped Team Re-Sign and New Cut Dead Weight Logic - I'm so jaded about this that it's going to take me seeing this to believe it. If true, I'm as happy as a bug in a rug.
New Salary System - Again, I'm just jaded and to prove a point, I'm waiting to see. But if this is done right (as it should have been from step one) it's nothing but good.
New Coach Impacts - I'm pretty sure this is a first step to something I described above. Coaches are a big part of the game, not as much as in college, but still a big part. They determine play-calling policy, etc. so anything to make the coaches a bigger part of Madden is a good first step.
So what do you think of the new features in Franchise mode? Let me know by commenting on this blog!

Every game is a wait and see when new things are put into a game. I'm thinking just how many patches and tuner adjustments will this game need? This nothing against the Madden Dev Team. It's a fact, every game almost always gets patched, especially Sports games.

Who plays offline? From the looks of it online franchise has been ignored again.

Franchise mode looks the best it has in a while hopefully they keep this progress of creating a game by listening to more of our opinons they will succeed very far doing so.

@Swimfunk -- Every survey I've seen has shown that well over half of all people who purchase sports games still play their games primarily offline. But Online Franchise info isn't out yet -- so I wouldn't panic.

I hate the feeling thatevery coach in Madden feels exactly the same. What's the point of expertise? I usually just sign the coach with the best attribute increases. I think every coach should have their own playbook; the Head Coach's plays should make up 90% of the playbook while the Off. and Def. Coordinators should add the remaining 10%. This way you kind of have to "scout" coaches based on their playing style. It sounds like they're working towards coaching having more of an effect on players but I hope its more than a handful of coaches like M11.

Player roles will be a solid inclusion because they affect stats on the field and change on a yearly basis. That's definitely a depth upgrade.

@MMChrisS- That dont sounds to good. Online franchise will get more play if it was done better. As is right now, Leaguedaddy with drafts..

"Hey I would like to know if we have the practice squads like in Head Coach were you had to make 8 players sit before every game."
That's actually not a practice squad; what you're describing is setting an active/inactive roster for game day using the people on your active roster. Players on your practice squad don't count towards your roster; you actually have to sign them to your team.
That said - adding either of these (preferably both) would've been great, but I don't think we got the practice squad.

one of the biggest things that bugs me in franchise is when i play a team its the scrubs that get all the stats, ex i play the texans and they forget about AJ he may get 2 targets all game, while the slot WR or FB gets 10 passes.
all the talk about defensive AI and zones how about QB's knowing who are their best guys no way should shaub not throw to AJ one on one with a 65 corner...

Of course most of maddens features are "wait and see". This is a crucial madden issue for the developers as maddens fan base is really starting to decrease.
