Quick Reaction: First NCAA Football 12 Screenshot Stuck
Posted on March 14, 2011 at 06:04 PM.

I'm forced to audible on my blog post today, and I think I'll just post a quick missive on the first NCAA Football 12 screenshot and post a few things that are apparent as of today based upon the screenshot.

Here's a few things:

  • Attention to detail is no fluke: There are small details across the entire screenshot. Grass looks better (and is being kicked up behind the Florida Player), Uniforms are degraded, there is new equipment and detail on it, and there is new lighting.
  • There will be new animations: The tackle animation we see taking place looks to be brand new, and this could be a sign there are new and meaningful animations to add to the detail. In fact, this animation looks like the physics engine has taken a noticeable step up, which would be gargantuan to gameplay.
  • At least for now, there aren't any linemen standing around: A single screenshot doesn't mean much, but it shows there aren't any linemen just standing around. Last year's line play was the best EVER in a football game, so long as that formula has been improved I can't help but see good things.
  • The football totally needs to be smaller: This has been a problem for awhile. If it can be done before release, I implore you EA, look at how big it is on players. The football is at least 1.5x too big.
So what do you spot? What are your thoughts on the screenshot? Are you planning on buying or at least watching the progress of NCAA this year?

I see dreadlocks as well. Yes!! Hopefully when we are editing players the helmet will come off in the edit screen so we can get a better look at our guy's face.

Football is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to big.

I see facial expression finally on the runner, not just the players face with mouth closed the whole game.

How awesome would real time physics be? *drool* But, I dream.

I don't understand why EA has to throw out one photo for everyone to breakdown in a possible 100 post thread. This marketing ploy has gotten way out of hand.

main thing i wish they would do is redo and make a whole new jersey structure...

The crowd looks the same as 11 to me.

You can't really make a judgment on the crowd as they are a very small and blurred portion of the photo.

Do I see dreads...?

Someone needs to start a petition to shrink the ball. Now that ODogg has his dreads maybe he will fight for a realistic looking football.

lately, the balls have been too big (no homo ). I first noticed it on the drew brees pic from madden 11

Man honestly i dont care about this screen shot. This game LOOKS good all the time, just like Madden LOOKS good, but what do it PLAY like? Can u actually lob pass across the middle? Do your defenders actually play zone coverage correctly? Do you lineman really block? Do they continue to make their block once they are beaten? Do Scrambling QB's actually scramble? Im not impress with these screenshots of some new grass and some dreads.

Dash,

Somebody will post soon saying it's way too early.
That there still is time address those questions.
Although EA has never address in-depth Gameplay issues.

Only thing I can say is Game Engine my friend.
Tweaking one area, affects another, then another, then another.

Everything is so connected, that gamers are forced to be happy with playable.

As for the photo, let me remind folks that dirty uni's in '11 had to be patched even after they appeared in the pre-release still photo's that got folks all gitty!!!

I have the feeling that all this high level visuals is a prelude to gamer's being forced to the Dev's fixed camera view to showcase what people are seeing in pre-release photos.

They wouldn't do all this detail, just to have the camera pulled back and not show all the work they put in.

Game Engine is Maxed Out!!!
Don't expect too much Gameplay difference from 2011.
