The Gaming Fitness Challenge -- Day 1 Stuck
Posted on December 13, 2010 at 10:27 PM.

Ok, I made it through day one with no real issues. The ankle had some issues on a few Yoga poses, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. My EA Sports Active 2 workout was solid -- the mountain biking in the midst of the workout was actually pretty tough. However, there were a few workouts I just couldn't get working right. I just had to skip over those after doing them the best I could without the game registering it.

Overall, today I started out with Wii Fit, did a few basic exercises and Yoga poses to just get a feel for the game. I then did my daily workout in EA Sports Active, then I hit up Wii Fit again for a round of Yoga. Overall, at least on day one, I can say I think I'll be able to handle the basic workload of EA Sports Active and Wii Fit Plus. It's very clear I'm going to have to modify a bit to add some workload -- but it's also clear that I spent more than half of my time setting up the games and getting the exercises figured out, so I was highly inefficient. I can probably get my workouts in future days done in half the time with more calories burned.

On the diet front, I'm pretty sure I did well today. I had a basic and low calorie Thai dish for Dinner (right at 750 calories for me tonight), along with a turkey sandwich for lunch and just a basic protein bar for breakfast. I'll have to stack in something for a snack for sure. From what I'm told, I need to eat around 2500 calories a day without doing anything more than my normal workload to break even on weight -- and I'm without a doubt not to 1700 yet as of this evening much less 2500. If I were wanting to lose weight, running a big deficit isn't a horrible thing -- but I'm working on a deficit (counting my workout) of nearly 1200 calories. Going to have to close that a bit tonight with some fruit or something along those lines so I don't end up feeling like junk.

If you have the Wii version of EA Sports Active 2, and you want to join the OS group, here are the details:

Group Name: OSFitness
Group Password: fitforlife

Chase is setting up a PS3 Group and we are currently seeking someone to set up a group on the 360. Get at me if you want to be that person!

And as far as how today went, here's the stats:

Total Calories Burned: 369
Max Heart Rate: 171
Total Workout Time: 1 Hour 20 Minutes
