Enough, is Enough...NBA
Posted on October 19, 2011 at 02:13 AM.
"People don't like to see lockouts," Havlicek said. "They don't like to see people making a lot of money (on both sides) negotiate the way it has come down to. People who are paying the ticket prices think it's unfathomable there would be a lockout."

Cousy, at 83 one of just seven living players who played in the NBA's first All-Star Game in 1951, wishes today's players could adopt some of the spirit possessed by the NBA's pioneers.

"We were as happy as pigs in mud that people actually paid us money to play," he said.

After reading most of this artcle on foxsports. I got ticked off at this whole situation. As a fan, a former season ticket holder for the Raptors, and as a person who just flat out likes good basketball to watch.
Oh; i should have said watched! NBA-TV canada isn't cutting the mustard anymore. (sorry it just isn't) but as i sit here writing this, and conversing with other friends and fans about this "LOCKOUT"; we all had this one huge problem regardless if we were for the players, or for the Owners; WHO FLIPS the bill when it is all said and DONE?
Short answer; ME! you have to point to yourself, if your a fan; and fans pay to see their teams no matter where, or how.
We pay to go to the arenas, eat food there, and buy team apperal. You pay for wi-fi service to see them play on your phone; You pay to see them on tv at home through NBA league pass. We keep paying and they keep getting richer. Lets face it; prices wont be going down EVER; just increasing more and more every year (that's why i am a former season ticket holder, as prices were becoming more and more ridiclous; gave them up after 3 season of medicore basketball being played right in front of my own eyes) I was a witness to too much losing and nothing to show for it, other than the ticket -row and seat #.
How many team hats do i need to buy, every year?
To side with the players for a moment; i agree that they need to get paid; but how much do they really need more? Are you telling me, they need millions more? i would say keep your NBA; i would and should invest my money in something else more lucrative.
Now, if i was going to say any good about the Owners, is thanks for keeping a team in my city for the moment! Nobody knows when they plan to up and leave a city for greener (money filled) pastures. Owners are like Wall Street shareholders; they maybe fanatics to a point, but they are ultimately in it for the money!!! don't be fooled.
Nobody invest lots of money to lose money. So if the owners feel that they can break even within a new CBA, let it be.
Corporate (GREED) America has got their dirty hands in this whole situation with no resolve in site.
Yes, basketball was invented in Canada; but i dont think greed had any part in the development in it; as i looked back into history, i lastly recalled the game of basketball as a team sport, and merely a kids game! what happened?

chew on that!

cheers

btw, if the lockout is lifted, i can bet you; Fans and people will be paying thru the nose for everything NBA!
Hey, i bought NBA 2K12; that just might be enough for me!

peace

Well you tell 'em buddy!

I agree 100% and by the way Canada Rules! and I'm an American. I agree though. Completely the players greedy fault. "oh, we can't play if we only make a minimum of $500,000 a year(or something like that). Your playing freakin BASKETBALL not saving the world from some Asteroid. And those people that get paid minimum only sit there on the bench. Imagine getting paid $500,000 for sitting on your a**. I mean really!

I completly agree. All pro athletes are becoming over paid brats. "I need more $$" "I deserve more $$" meanwhile I work anywhere from 44 hours a week to 84 hours a week and my salary is around $40,000 before bonus $ not $400,000. That kind of money would change my entire life! one check would pay off all my credit cards, my house, my car, my student loans, and my wife wouldn't have to work again ever. That's the minimum salary that is crazy. I understand that their careers are short but, thats the name of the game in sports get in and make money while you can but, even a league minimum player who plays 3 years made $1.2 mil (after taxes thats still $650,000) maybe if they get a degree they may be able to work after their careers end in their 20's or 30's

Its crazy how these guys r fighting over money......RICH mofos fighting over money......they r figting over sumthin they have PLENTY of.....Let those greedy clowns work a REAL job....im sure there wont be another lockout EVER.....

I would disagree that guys get paid to sit on their hineys. They have to keep themselves in shape year round abd they still need to perform to keep their jobs. Unlike most companies, pro athletes have to maintain a level beyond average to keep "working.".

In my opinion you could have kept this blog. The players don't cause a lockout the owners do. The players cause strikes. This is all the owners fault. The old occupy wall street and complain about who is making the most money is just unproductive IMO. People are so envious of these young men that they blame them for everything. Players strike when they don't get things there way and owners lockout. This is the owners doing, enough is enough of people not knowing the difference and trying to blame everything on these young men who they are envious of there positions.

@Eski33, i would love to stay in shape all year round and have somebody pay me 1.2 million dollars! And to say i might play in 2 games all season for appprox. 6 mins, would be the greatest "JOB" ever. My question would be; why could the players not do the 50/50 suggested by the Onwers? They still are getting millions of dollars to perform, and i don't mean at a high rate either! Why would i say something like that: well, you give me 10 superstar today that have played all 82 games? You might find ten or probably less; players can't compete with the players of yester year, that played through bumps, and bruises, and minor sprains. Let's face it; it's not the handful of superstar complaining about money; and it sure isn't the journey men that aren't that good that are complaining about money (as they already know how lucky they are not tobe working a real job 9-5), it's the tweeners, that get some floor time, but not enough to crack a lineup! If they (the Tweeners) don't get their money here, the just jump on overseas, and play for whomever is willing to pay them. So their great Union Rep(s), Bill Hunter, are all sitting at some table listening to Gordon Gekko, on how to line your pockets for the rest of your playing career!
So yes, i do slightly disagree with your statement on how some of/ most of these player do take games off, and some are just there for the after game parties! Wow, i can't believe i pay/paid to watch this, and i have no say in what goes down; even after, i will be the one flipping the bill!
nuff said.
@BRxSKINSx, i joke and laugh at the same thing; "Money?", they going to argue about money? Rich people arguing about money! lol
thanks for backing me @eaterofworlds888, and @stlstudios189.

OperationSports should do a poll on who the people back: The PLAYERS or the already Rich OWNERS

cheers

I share your sentiments on this issue, it's a slap in the face by both parties when so much of the country is struggling like it is. Check out the blog I wrote on the matter

http://www.operationsports.com/clipperfan811/blog/14713-lockout-backlash/

@ truintellectplaya

It's very simple, both parties are to blame for this. To make comment like "this is a lockout the players have nothing to do with it" is completely uninformed, this is a labor negotiation, meaning two parties are involved.

When even well run teams like the spurs are loosing money there has to be significant changes to the structure or the NBA will not be able to operate. That means no money for anybody or at least far less teams in the league which means far less NBA caliber salaries.

Both sides need to loose the ego and make a deal that is fair and the longer they don't, there needs to be a progressively harsher fan backlash.

a lot of people are speaking about this situation in the eyes of fans true basketball players do get paid alot of money but so does other athletes baseball players, football players ect. but really that is beside the point if you want to know who is doing all the negotiating who is willing to talk everyday? who idea was it to call in the mediator to help work out a deal? who is coming up with the majority of the ideas? its the players cause at the end of the day they have the most to loose. should the players get more than 50% of BRI? IMO yes because they are the people who bring in the business do you pay to watch players or owners?

# 9 Retropyro @ Oct 21
Doesn't matter if it's called a lockout or a strike, both parties have had the last 2 years to work out a deal and both failed.
What this is, is 30 owners and roughly 400 players fighting over how to divide 4 Billion dollars while throwing up a smile and middle finger to the fans. They smile because they assume that when they finally get their crap together, we the fans will come running back and sadly they are right.
