Recently I got NHL 09 and it's one of the best games I've every purchased. I am addicted. I, however don't know the game of hockey well at all so fun factor is really huge for me. People that know the game well say that it doesn't play like realistic hockey. It makes me almost wish that I knew nothing about other sports like basketball and football as this might make the game appeal to me more since it seems to be like that with NHL 09. Or is the game really that good? I'll probably never be able to tell like I could with basketball or football because I don't know how hockey works.

You know as a huge hockey fan and a former addict of the NHL series it shames me to say I haven't played an NHL game in a few years. I just never liked hockey games on consoles. I have been hearing amazing things about nhl 08 and 09 and am really considering picking 09 up.

I watch a hell of a lot of hockey. Although I've never played it (the sport), NHL 09 certainly appears to play as close to a real game of hockey as any other hockey game I've ever played.

To me it plays close. If EA included more neutral zone play instead of up-and-down the ice style, it would be more realistic.

Hockey is my favorite team sport and living in the Detroit area you can't help being a huge Red Wings fan. EA Canada has nailed it this year with NHL 09 making it the closest simulation of a sport in any video sports game.

I wouldn't say it's even close to a real representation of the sport until there's pinning and cycling around the boards. The game is completely open. It's still the most fun hockey game around, but I'm not ready to say it's the most realistic representation ever. In the case of a game like NHL 09, I'm glad it didn't try to make it completely realistic. It'd mean they tried to do too much with the game in one year, resulting in loss of quality.
