So, my save file has been corrupted. I may eventually restart the dynasty, but we'll see. I'm quite disappointed right now.

In a game which Tampa recorded a season high 7 sacks, senior defensive tackle Sheldon Carr lead the way with three of them.

Excellent efforts at the line of scrimmage from both the offense and defense keep Vanderbilt's scoring chances stuck on the bench, as Tampa absolutely dominated the the time of possession and recorded excellent yards per carry numbers from all of its rushers.

LGCU running back Josh Richards came into the game leading the conference in both total rushing yards and yards per game, averaging over 100 yards per game. Tampa managed to hold him to just 3 yards on 5 attempts, while Spartan running back Chris Weddle rushed for 133 yards.

Two defensive touchdowns, and another solid performance from the running game. Control the time of possession, win the turnover battle. These are the keys to success.

Another defensive touchdown certainly helped swing the momentum in this game. Quarterback Charles Gold had the worst game of his career, completing just 4 passes for only 62 yards. The offensive certainly struggled, but running back Chris Weddle finally broke out, surpassing the century mark for the first time this season.

So far all of the Spartans' games have been televised. They remain undefeated. Next week, the Spartans play there first home game of the season against Louisiana Gulf Coast. The game is set for Saturday, September 25, at 12:30pm. The game will be televised online at ESPN3.

Time of possession certainly made the difference in this game. Tampa was able to keep their defense fresh and keep Miami's offense off the field, which helped limit Miami's scoring and allowed the defense to come up big in the final minutes of the game. Of course, any time your defense puts points on the board with a touchdown, you're happy too. [I've started SuperSim-Watching defense.]

The Gulf Coast Conference offensive player of the week was East Texas quarterback J.R. Chavez, who completed 26 of 34 passes for 330 yards and 6 touchdowns in the win over New Orleans. His brother, Maurice Chavez, was last week's GCC defensive POTW.

The Gulf Coast Conference defensive player of the week was Tampa defensive end David Finley, who record 8 tackles (3 for loss), a sack, and a forced fumble, in Tampa's overtime win at West Florida.

There are no conference games for the GCC this week, so it's an early opportunity to impress pollsters and bowl committees with a lot of out of conference games.

I've created 12 teambuilder teams on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. They've been substituted in and all put into Conference USA as the Gulf Coast Conference. I've started an offline dynasty as the University of Tampa Spartans. This blog will document my progress.

Season preview

Week 1: Bye
Week 2: at West Florida
Week 3: at Miami
Week 4: at New Orleans
Week 5: vs Louisiana Gulf Coast
Week 6: vs Vanderbilt
Week 7: vs Biloxi
Week 8: vs Florida State
Week 9: vs East Texas
Week 10: at Tulsa
Week 11: at Florida Gulf Coast
Week 12: at Mobile
Week 13: vs Alabama Gulf Coast
Week 14: Bye
Week 15: Bye
Conference Championship week

(I actually scheduled @FSU and vsTulsa, but game flipped them for some reason.)

I've added a few 4-stars to my recruiting board, but mostly 3-stars. All the needs are on defense, where I basically need 1 player at every position. I have no offensive needs, but I will be going after a few players.

Preseason poll:
#1 Alabama
#2 Ohio State
#3 Texas
#4 Oregon
#5 Boise State
#6 Florida
#7 Virginia Tech
#8 TCU
#9 Nebraska
#10 Iowa
#11 Wisconsin
#12 Georgia Tech
#13 USC
#14 Miami
#15 Oklahoma
#16 Pittsburgh
#17 LSU
#18 Penn State
#19 Oregon State
#20 Arkansas
#21 Florida State
#22 North Carolina
#23 Utah
#24 Cincinnati
#25 West Virginia

(I forgot to check preseason all-Americans and all-Conference.)
