LGCU running back Josh Richards came into the game leading the conference in both total rushing yards and yards per game, averaging over 100 yards per game. Tampa managed to hold him to just 3 yards on 5 attempts, while Spartan running back Chris Weddle rushed for 133 yards.

All right, last week was the first week of the AP Top 25 poll, but I didn't notice it. It's out also this week, and because there are more GCC teams ranked in that poll, we'll use it, but once the BCS poll starts, that will be the only poll used.
With four weeks down, four Gulf Coast teams have finished their non-conference games. Two of those teams, Alabama Gulf Coast and Galveston, each finished undefeated in non-conference play. Tampa also remains undefeated, but has played just one non-conference game (at Miami). New Orleans is 2-0 in non-conference games, but 0-2 in conference. Here's a look at the updated conference standings.
East Texas quarterback J.R. Chavez was named the Gulf Coast Conference offensive player of the week for the third straight week. Week 1's defensive player of the week was award the East Texas defensive back Maurice Chavez, so through 4 weeks, East Texas has accounted for 4 POTW awards.
Tampa defensive tackle Sheldon Carr was named the Gulf Coast Conference defensive player of the week. This marks the second time in three weeks that a Tampa defensive linemen has received the defensive POTW award.

Another defensive touchdown certainly helped swing the momentum in this game. Quarterback Charles Gold had the worst game of his career, completing just 4 passes for only 62 yards. The offensive certainly struggled, but running back Chris Weddle finally broke out, surpassing the century mark for the first time this season.

As if there weren't already enough top 10 teams being upset this season, Tampa has added to the tally, upsetting the tenth ranked Miami Hurricanes 24-20 on Sunday afternoon.
Time of possession certainly made the difference in this game. Tampa was able to keep their defense fresh and keep Miami's offense off the field, which helped limit Miami's scoring and allowed the defense to come up big in the final minutes of the game. Of course, any time your defense puts points on the board with a touchdown, you're happy too. [I've started SuperSim-Watching defense.]

Heading into week 3, Tampa finds itself atop the Gulf Coast Eastern Division standings.

The Gulf Coast Conference defensive player of the week was Tampa defensive end David Finley, who record 8 tackles (3 for loss), a sack, and a forced fumble, in Tampa's overtime win at West Florida.
