When it starts getting nice and hot around here (I'm in NY), naturally I'm spending more time outdoors. Tending to the yard, barbeque, running around with my kids and cooling off in the pool.
So its less indoor time for gaming. And by the time I get inside and sit down in front of the TV, I'm too tired to really get into any serious gaming. Easier just to throw on a ball game or watch some Netflix.
The game releases don't stop, but this time a year no way I can keep up with even the ... Read More

My youngest son is 9 and still believes in Santa. He thinks this year we should leave a note in addition to the cookies. It's really heart warming. I was thinking last night that this year could be the last year of Santa in our house and it made me a little sad.

Around that age I remember my oldest son asking me the question for the first time, "Is there really a Santa Claus, Dad?" I knew by his tone he wasn't sure. So what do you say? Fortunately, I was thinking quick on my feet ... Read More

Even though it was Monday morning, I felt pretty good when I got out of bed because its my birthday. What really brought a smile to my face was the birthday greetings from my wife and kids when I walked downstairs.
Mentally, I just don't feel that old. I guess I don't even know how 47 years old is supposed to feel? At least I act like an adult sometimes. I do feel older physically, with more aches and pains, but thank goodness nothing serious.
Today, they are having a blood drive in ... Read More

I always thought self esteem was something you really had no control over, until I read a little article that proved otherwise by my experience.
Four ways to lower/raise your self esteem (SE):
Responsible thought followed up by the responsible action = SE up.
Responsible thought not followed up by the responsible action - SE down
Irresponsible thought not followed up by the irresponsible action - SE up
Irresponsible thought followed up with by the irresponsible action ... Read More

Video gaming is one of the most family friendly hobbies I can think of. Most of your time is spent right at home. No special time of day or scheduling to worry about. You can easily coordinate your game time around other demands on your time. Some of that game time could be spent with your spouse or kids if they are interested. Even if they are not, the family may benefit by enjoying that new HDTV!

I was happy that my first born was a son. I remember thinking how neat it will be when me and my boy have a catch. Those times came and went, too fast. He is 18 now.
My middle child is a girl. I was glad my wife now had a daughter to share those things I have no understanding of. At 12 she's hitting the teenage years and can be sweet as sugar or a nasty little ______. Thank god for my wife.
My 9 year old and I are best buddies. I will almost always stop what I am doing if he asks me ... Read More

I've been reading the Camel Club books by David Balducci. "Stone Cold" had a passage where a dad is talking to his youngest son. It hit home about my kids growing up.

"Your brother is thirteen he doesn't really like having his old man around all that much right now. I'm just not that cool or smart."
"I think you're cool and smart."
That's what I love about you." As they walked back to the car Finn lifted Patrick on his shoulders and took off running. As they arrived at ... Read More

Married with children - the title pretty much sums up the best chapters of my life (not counting the first marraige). It's been 15 great years with my second wife, Audrey. We have two children together, Diana 12 and Peter 9. My oldest son Mike is 18 and has been living with us since he was 4. He's not here at the moment since he started college this year.
I'd be lost without my family.
