Perceptor's Blog
This is my first OS blog and thought I'd dedicate this to one of my all-time favorite football players in Cesc Fabregas. His move to Barcelona from my favorite team Arsenal has left me sad. I have some great memories of what he's been for this football club and here's my favorite memories of Cesc
He first made an impression of how good he could be with his performances in the Champion's League of 2005-06. His goal versus Juventus and solid performances made me think that this guy was going to be a star.
The following season, he played even better and you could tell that there was a transition of sorts going on within Arsenal. Thierry Henry's influence and importance was waning and Cesc's was increasing. He was dictating more games in midfield and all Gooners could see what was happening. When Henry was sold to Barcelona, we all knew Cesc was going to be the player Wenger built the squad around
2007-08 was the first season where Cesc really started to transition from good young player to a world class player. His performances all season long were solid and his performance for Spain in Euro 2008 was telling. Unfortunately for Cesc, he suffered a major knee injury in the following season and played a handful of games for Arsenal.
It was the 2009-10 season where Cesc continues his ascension into greatness, adding goal scoring to his wonderful passing and vision. Unfortunately, injuries again hampered the back end of the season and subsequently ended any trophy aspirations for Arsenal as well. The summer of 2010 was eventful as Cesc won a World Cup, discussed his desire to go to Barcelona and end up staying at Wenger's request.
This led to this past season where Cesc was not the player he was. He was distinctly very average and only had flashes of his world class self. Injuries and a troublesome hamstring also contributed to his loss of form, but many fans believe he was distracted by the whole Barcelona saga. Again, Barcelona stepped up their interest and finally got their man.
I lost a lot of respect for Barcelona for their tapping up of Cesc and the arrogance and lack of respect they had for Arsenal when they were going after him. As most OS'ers know, I supported Barcelona as my Liga team and this left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure I'll recover, but it was hard
All I can say now is that I do wish Cesc Fabregas the best of luck at Barcelona. I want to see him win lots of trophies and play well for his home club. As much as I would have loved him to stay at Arsenal and win trophies, he always made it clear he was a Barca boy. I might not cheer for Barca, but I will always want to see Cesc do well. Class player and always a Gooner....
