The Mean Green gave a knockout blow to the neighbor Rice Owls 41-31. The offense came alive with over 400 yards in total offense. A balanced attack at that. Over 200 yards in rushing offense and passing offense which gives them hope with that kind of balanced offense. After a tough first loss to Clemson, They came back home and fought hard for a much deserved win. After being down early in the first half they came back with fire, Down 4 at halftime the Mean Green came alive with 3 touchdowns. 2 of those touchdowns courtesy of Lance Dunbar. Dunbar had a breakout game with over 200 yards on the ground and established him as a force for the Mean Green. North Texas never looked back after halftime and won easily 41-31. Are the Mean Green ready for FBS Independent Army next week? We asked Coach Taylor. " I think we came out with alot on our minds tonight after last Saturday and everything came together and if we do this every week I think we have a chance to win." North Texas stays at home again next week against Army and will be shown on CBS College Sports at 4 PM CST.

Dallas Star-Telegram- Clemson manhandled the Mean Green on Saturday in rout to a 31-7 win. It was a rough start Coach Taylor's head coaching career. The Mean Green gave a great effort though. The only trailed by 2 scores at halftime, but never scored in the second half. North Texas kept it competitive racking up over 250 total yards in the game and were only down 7 points midway threw the 2nd quarter. But after halftime the Tigers came out quick with a field goal and touchdown in the first two minutes. North Texas' only score came midway through the second quarter courtesy of Olawale. September 11th is North Texas' first home game. They host the Rice Owls at 6 PM in the newly constructed Fouts Field. A boxscore is available down below courtesy of Jack in the Box ©.

Dallas-Star Telegram- You can smell football in the air here in Dallas as nearby North Texas begins the start of a new saga with Coach Patrick Taylor at the helm. The Mean Green's first game is Saturday against the Clemson Tigers. Coming off a 2-10 season they hope to start over new. They bring back most of their starters with Nathan Tune under center and Lance Dunbar at tailback. Experience will hopefully come through for a team looked over in this football hungry state. The fans and students down the road in Denton, Texas are certainly excited about the arrival of Coach Taylor as the spring game was the most attended in the history of the football program. Coach Taylor, the former defensive line coach at the University of Louisville, said this about the season, " This is obviously a rebuilding program but I have alot of trust in our system and the guys that are in it. Nathan has alot of experience and hopefully that will carry over to the offensive side of the ball. The defensive side of the ball is our problem but fall practice worked all the kinks out. I am really excited about this season and hope to suprise." North Texas' game is Saturday at 4 in Clemson, South Carolina and is being aired on ESPN U.
