What a Fight Night league could be... Stuck
Posted on December 11, 2008 at 12:03 AM.
Some of the people on this site already know I have done several leagues for the Fight Night series. One of them was successful, the other two, well...they were not up to standards. So why keep trying if things haven't worked out sometimes? You might think, here comes PRGUY with another one of his complex league ideas...and you are probably right, but please read on and tell me what you think about this one. It's basically the same idea I was trying to sell for the Prizefighter league. So here it goes...

The core ideas that have progressed throughout the years and that people enjoy employing on the league are promoters, events and having an organized fashion to look for fights with respectable players. However, it has always been a tough job finding ways to make a promoter work in the league or have any true relevance. We have tried money among others things which always end up complicating the league affairs and straying them from the true reason we are all here: to have some fights and win. I propose that we have a league focused around Promoter vs Promoter weekly events where each promoter must schedule 1 fight for each of their boxers with some other fighter in the opposite promoter camp. That way we ensure every boxer with a promoter will get a fight each week no questions asked. Promoter vs Promoter schedule will be done before league officially starts so each promoter can plan beforehand who we wants to match against his opposite promoter, perhaps ensuring the biggest fight is always done and thus getting a better name.

In order for this weekly event/1 ranked fight a week deal works, we must try to have the same number of boxers with each promoter. This way it ensures that every boxer will have an opponent to face on the other promoter's camp each week.

As for Promoters, they will have a combined record. This record will reflect all wins and losses of his group of boxers. The promoter with the best record at the end of the complete schedule will get recognition from the league. Also, since they now depend on wins and losses, they will ensure their boxers are up to snuff always trying to have the best in order to get the most wins. This puts pressure on the boxer since a promoter can always cut them lose (unless they have a formal agreement beforehand) and look for a hotter prospect in the free agent pool. However, boxers cannot abandon their promoters. If they do so by breaking the promoter-boxer agreement, the league will see fit that they remain unranked for some time.

All this talk about promoters and you would think that I have forgotten about the core: the boxers. Boxers, for the time being, should fight at any of 3 weights to be determined by the league. This can change if we get enough people to fill each of the 3 weights but, for the moment, I cannot see a better solution. They will fight the boxer the promoter assigns him too. This will also give them a league record. The league will track each boxer's wins and losses per weight in order to later on decide on a champion or make tourneys to hand out the first belts. Champions should always fight the highest ranked boxer on the opposite promoter's camp unless the opponent refuses to have the chance to fight for the belt.

As for those boxers that are not with a promoter and are thus free agents, they will always have the chance to be picked up by a promoter throughout the season. That is why they must ensure that they stay active in order to impress anyone looking for a replacement to one in his camp. All boxers will be able to fight at any time in unranked fights yet only the weekly fights scheduled by promoter will be counted for the league record/ranking. This is the easiest way to track all of it for the league and allows for events to be properly built up. Anticipation is a great tool so it can be good for the league.

If any of you have any ideas/doubts/complains about these, please post them here. It is just a way to focus on the essential things: winning, fights, promoters, boxers. Nothing less, nothing more.

Sounds like an interesting idea for sure. If you get this idea off the ground be on the lookout for Pappy Knuckles. 6'3, 215 lbs of explosiveness!

Well Pappy Knuckles, I already have it planned on http://fightnightnation.ning.com

I would like to do a test run before RD 4 comes out probably a small 4 promoter, 16-20 fighter league that will last for 2-3 months.

I've got a buddy who said he'd be interested in this as well. I think it would be cool to do something like you're only to use a certain amount of points when creating your guy. It's up to you to decide what areas you want to excel in. I've played a lot of guys online and I hate seeing fighters that are maxed out or better than the boxers already in the game.

Regardless of how you put this together, I hope the test league goes well because I'd love for it to continue with FNR4.

Yea, we can definitely try using points yet since EA hasn't added the ability to see the number values for the opponent's CAB (something that was in there for 2004) then we can only go by everyone's word. That gives way to people calling the other cheater and other stuff of that nature.
