Suck For Luck
Posted on October 25, 2011 at 06:55 AM.
After watching that debacle of a collapse by the Miami Dolphins to Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos, Dolphins fans must be ecstatic. Their “Suck For Luck” drive is still alive.

No offense to Tebow and company but it’s almost as if the Dolphins gave that game away. There were numerous plays that if any one of them went the other way the Dolphins would have earned their first victory of the season and hence would have fallen behind the Colts and the Rams for the number one pick of next year’s draft.

If I were a Dolphins’ fan I would have been angry if the Dolphins won the game. At least Colts’ fans still have Peyton for a few more years and Rams’ fans could have a franchise QB in Bradford. But one can make an argument for both the Colts and the Rams need for Luck. Peyton may be done for his career, or maybe the next nasty hit may end his career, and Bradford may or may not be the answer.

So what is the answer if you’re a fan of one of these teams or any team that hasn’t won in awhile? Should you be rooting for your team to lose so that they position themselves to draft Luck? What incentive do these teams have to win?

I believe the NFL should institute a playoff system for draft positioning. Take the bottom six teams and seed them according to their records where the best record gets the #1 seed and the worst record gets the #6 seed. Then have the standard playoffs scenario….#1 seed and #2 seeds gets a bye for round 1…….#6 seed @ #3 seed, #5 seed @ #4 seed, etc. etc. If six teams are too many then have the bottom four teams playoff for the #1 seed. No matter what playoff scenario is used it will ensure that the worst teams still play to win during the regular season and by winning helps them get a better shot at the #1 pick. Plus as a fan of these teams you’ll actually have a postseason! The NFL and the networks would make even more money. It’s a win-win for all involved, except for maybe the starting QBs of these losing teams.

extra games for crappy teams I don't want that. I honestly don't think that a team would really lose on purpose for a higher draft pick
