UNLV DYNASTY - YEAR 2 PREVIEW
Posted on October 4, 2017 at 04:48 PM.
At the very least, I’m thinking this team will contend for the Mountain West title again. There is a lot of potential to be even better, though. After adding the balance that was needed and our overall team being stronger in a weak conference, we have a good shot at going undefeated. Let’s further analyze the 2018 Rebels.

Offense

Armani Rogers returns in even better form, adding a ton of awareness and throwing accuracy. He might break even more records this year. His targets include wide receivers Kendal Keys, Brandon Presley, Darren Woods Jr., and Mekhi Stevenson. He lost tight end Trevor Kanteman to graduation, but sophomore Giovani Fauolo looks poised to fill in nicely at that position. And we can’t forget about the shiny new freshman we recruited, Sean Watkins. He will be the starting halfback as his talents eclipse any other running back we have. I’ve decided to redshirt Lexington Thomas for his senior year. He seems to have some lingering injury issues from the prior season, so it’s safer to sit him as we still have Charles Williams and Xaviar Campbell on the squad. I will say that offensive line is something that we hadn’t been aggressive on upgrading yet, but it looks like we will have a stronger unit than last year.

Defense

This squad will have four true freshman playing immediately. But they are sure upgrades and our veteran defensive players shouldn’t have any trouble leading them on the field. So among those freshman are defensive linemen Ernest Nelson, Anthony Thorne, and Phil O’Donnell, and strong safety Avery Edwards. These players should help with the 4-2-5 scheme I’ve installed. This defense still features cornerback Darius Mouton, and we should see some great plays made by him.

Special Teams

Our kicking and punting games are nearly identical to last year. Senior Evan Pantels will still be handling double duties both kicking and punting, but he’s gone after this season so we will need to address the void he will create when he graduates. Mekhi Stevenson will handle return duties as he is pretty fast and shifty.
