NBA Live 13- Steps to go Ahead of NBA 2k12
Posted on June 4, 2012 at 07:59 PM.
NBA Live 13 will almost most definitely probably not pass NBA 2k13 for best game or most sales. Now NBA 2K12 and the NBA 2k franchise now have their problems known by most people. Including those at EA SPORTS. With two years without a game, 2K SPORTS' problems are on the minds of many people. What NBA Live 13 needs to do, is address those problems by making them the best part of their game.

STEP 1: Passing

The public has not liked the passing in the recent NBA 2k games and NBA Live 13 will probably feature passing as their main key to the game. You can't make dime passes like Rondo does in real life in NBA 2k's games, threading the needle with a bounce pass. NBA Live can do this as their passing was good in NBA Live 10. With improvement, their passing might just be a main part for real and authentic gameplay

Step 2: Online

NBA 2k12 owners have been furious this year with the amount of online problems. Too much lagging, freezing, communication issues, and connection issues. If NBA Live 13 can make their online smooth (minimal lagging) many people might switch over to NBA Live. Some Buyers of basketball simulations buy their games ONLY for the online. Even though I find this wrong as I am not a very big online player, it is true.

Step 3: Presentation

Now, NBA 2K12 had decent presentation even though they claimed their presentation was on point. They did start the new camera angles which were impressive, but as always, things became repetitive. NBA Live 13 has ESPN licensing. Abusing this will mean one of the best presentation for basketball games of all time. Including little things like announcing starting lineups in the arena (with players who get their name called walking of the bench and onto the floor when their name is called-look early 2000's NBA Live), showing Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Breen during Halftime or in a post game show which is another small thing they could add. NBA Live could really hurt NBA 2k with presentation because NBA 2k has no licensing for broadcasts like TNT

All in all, it's probably going to take a while for the NBA Live franchise to fight back in sales, but they may be able to put out the better game.

I am one of the people who buy games only to play online as I find human interaction more fun than cpu play. With that being said, I agree with your points especially the passing engine and the online play.
The passing engine in 2k basketball games has been a nightmare for years and it has gotten worse over the years. They removed the ability to throw a bounce pass which is mind boggling. You cannot feed the post in this game because your opponent will always sit back and intercept the slow lob passes that are thrown.

And online communication problems have been in joke in 2k sports games for years now. 2K12 actually tells you the problem is that your connection to the internet has dropped even though you are in a 8 person XBOX live party and everyone in the party is still talking to each other but everyone's games have dropped at the same time. That is inexcusable in the era of online gaming. Plus, since the AI based momentum system in which the CPU determines which team is on a "run" is active in human vs human games the game has zero balance. Gone are the days in where a newbie can pick the Heat and an experienced player can pick the Wizards and just out-skill them until they quit since the CPU will always assist the higher rated team. I want to throw my controller through the tv each time I have the CPU move my defenders out of LeBron or Wade's path even though I am playing on ball defense. Or when I select the tight defense against 3 pt shooters option, only to have the CPU slide my defender away from a shooter when the pass is thrown and limit my defense to a hand up from 3 ft animation so that the shooter can get an open look. This kind of nonsense just kills the player vs player games.

At this point I see zero reason for me not to give NBA Live a chance because 2k basketball has not delivered a consistently good game of basketball.
