Orioles Muster 3 Hits as Sheets goes 9

Oakland, CA The O's offensive struggles continue after being out scored 14-4 in their Tampa series the Baltimore Orioles were hoping a change would be able to snap their offensive funk and 4 game losing streak. It was not to be. The O's ran into a pitching buzz saw in Ben Sheets and fell to the Oakland Athletics 3-0 on Thursday night infront of 20,882.

Sheets was electric. Following his strong showing against Seattle he followed that with a complete game shut out. He also had the strike out pitch going recording 9 in the game. The Oriole hitters were clearly out classed all day long. They were behind pitches, early on breaking stuff and generally ineffective the entire game. Sheets would face 2 batter over the minimum of 27. "It was no contest out there tonight. We couldn't do anything at the plate." Nick Markakis would say, he was one of the three O's to get a hit off Sheets.

On the other side David Hernandez is the hard luck loser. Hernandez went 7 innings allowing the 3 runs off 8 hits and walked none, he sat down 6 on his own. Hernandez ERA improved to 8.10 a sign that things may be turning around for him after some early struggles this year. "It was good to see David throw the ball like that after his last start. We just never gave him an opportunity with the bats today." Manager Dave Trembley would add.

The 2nd game of the 4 game set is scheduled for Friday when Kevin Millwood and Justin Duchscherer square off.
