Birds swept at home 3-1
Shoppach was one of Bergesen's 5 strike out victims
Baltimore, MD For the first time this year the Baltimore Orioles have been swept in a series. Desptie Brad Beresen's best efforts to be the teams stopper his 6.1 innings of 1 run ball wouldn't be enough as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Orioles 3-1 at Camden Yards this afternoon. The game was a pitchers duel. Bergesen and Wade Davis combined to allow 2 runs to score in 14.1 inning. It was the bullpen that let the O's down.
In the 9th inning of a 1-1 game, with Matt Albers on the mound things started positive for Baltimore. Albers fanned Pena on 0-2 curve ball and got Ben Zobrist looking on a 2-2 heater. Then BJ Upton worked a 9 pitch single and, that was followed up by Pat Burrell who homered to right on a pitch that he was behind on and barely got over the right field wall for a 2 run score. Albers then stuck out Matt Joyce to close out the 9th. Albers took the loss after going 2.2 inning allowing only 3 hits, 2 earned while recording 4 Ks. "It's tough to lose one like that. My stuff was really good and even on the homerun, he was behind the pitch and just got it over the short porch in right. Sucks that's what cost us." Albers added.
For Baltimore Wade Davis had it going. In 8 innings he allowed only 8 hits, 1 earned run and K'ed 5. He kept the O's off balance all game long, the O's lone run came on an Adam Jones double which scored Brian Roberts who himself had just doubled. It was the best chance for a rally the O's would have. With Jones on second both Matt Wieters and Miguel Tejada flew out to left to end the inning.
The loss brought Baltimore to 4-5 while Tampa improved to 6-3. Baltimore next heads west for 7 games against the Athletics and Mariners, then they will travel to Boston for 3 games before they see Baltimore again.

Tell me about it. So far Begesen has been the best pitcher on the staff. I need to string togther more hits, and my baserunning is really bad right now. I'm blowing chances on the base baths left and right. But hey at least Longoria didn't hit 2 home runs this game.
