Rays Find Enough Offense, Pitching to Beat Birds.
Longoria went deep twice in the game.
Baltimore, MD The Oriole fell again tonight at the Yard 5-2 to the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. Evan Longoria had a great night belting 2 home runs, one a moon shot to center and the Rays jumped all over Oriole pitching. The Orioles failed to muster much of an attack, although Nolan Reimold did manage to hit his 1st home run of the season. The Loss drops the Orioles to 4-3 on the season. It also marks the first time the O's have lost the opening game of a series this season.
The Rays scored all 5 of their runs by way of the solo home run. It comes as no suprise that they all came against Jeremy Guthrie. Guthrie did manage to pitch the complete game despite all the homeruns. "It wasn't like he was all over the place. He made 3 bad pitches and they hit two pitchers pitches out." Manager Dave Trembly said when asked why he stuck with Guthrie. Guthrie also gave up 12 hits and saw his ERA rise from 1.29 to 3.38.
The bats on the other had seemed to still be reeling from Ricky Romero's outing the previous night. It didn't start out that way though. In the bottom of the 1st Brian Roberts singled, then stole second. He was advanced to third when Reimold bounced a ball to the right side of the field. He would then score when Matt Wieters grounded out to the short stop. "I felt good about manufacturing the run, but against a team like that you need to be able to hit with runners on and not just burn outs. Thats what got us tonight." Trembly would add. The O's wouldn't score again until the 8th when Reimold hit his home run.
Game two will feature a rematch of sorts as David Price will again square off against fellow south paw Brian Matusz for the second time this season.
