N51_rob's Blog
Well Blygilmore had a good idea in the RTTS thread http://www.operationsports.com/forums/scea-sports-mlb/298266-mlb-09-road-show-thread.html. So I will use my blog to keep people who want to follow updated on my progress as a starting pitching prospect with the Washington Nationals.
First I was always a Nats prospect. I created my self as a 6'2" 225 lbs RHP SP prospect. I had a 4 seam fastball, Change-up and a slurve. (the pitches that I know that I can throw. My slurve is because I could never get the bit to a slider and my curve didn't move a lot. lol) I was drafted by the Brewers and spend the spring and start of the summer in Huntsville, Alabama with the Stars. I worked my way from LRP to staff ace with 4 days before the AA All-Star game which I was in line to start. I was called up to AAA! It was good news even though I wanted to start the All-Star game. I was also getting a pay raise. From $32,250 to $75,000. Things were looking good. Well BOOM! Before I get my first start I found out that I was traded for a relief pitcher Jesus Colome to the Nationals. I finished up at the AA level 10-1 with at 2.26 ERA 84 K's in 107.1 innings pitched.
Here is a look at my numbers close to the All-Star game.
So I was off to Syracuse and AAA. My first start had me feeling that I was going to be just as dominate in AAA as I was in AA. 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 ER. MLB here I come!
Oh how wrong I was. Unlike AA in AAA lefties could hit me and hit me hard. My second start I would get embarrassed on the hill. I wouldn't even make it 5 innings. I was welcomed harshly. 4ip, 9 hits, 7 earned runs. (limited to 4 pictures in a blog entry so...)
That was a microcosm for my 10 starts in AAA. I would finish 4-2 with a 3.30 ERA 49 K's in 57.1 innings pitches. I would help the Sky Chief's make the playoffs but they would be eliminated before I would get a chance to pitch in the post season. Here is the final tally for my first year.
I wouldn't get a September Call up either. What I would get though is PAID! The Nats offered me a very nice deal. 3 years $387,000. Since my grandmothers daughter didn't raise no sucker I took it.
What I also failed to get was an invite to spring training. So it was back to Syracuse and the grind of the minors as I continue my quest to get the "The Show".
So there you go you are all caught up with Rich Robinson's Road to the Show. Enjoy and be sure to check back for updates on season 2.

What # starter are you in AAA (and what were you in your first year)? I was just surprised you didn't get the call to Spring Training.

Desk, I was #5 from day one in AAA. Never got a bump and at the start of the second season I am still the #5 starter. Yeah They only called three AAA starting pitchers up in September and only 3 for the spring
