Halo's Win Series, Down Baltimore 7-2
Posted on April 25, 2012 at 12:57 AM.

Iannetta is met by teammates following his 3 run blast.

Anaheim, CA The Baltimore Orioles are heading home. After 10 games in 10 days it was clear that the team was suffering from the "Get Away Day Blues" as they looked listless at the plate and fell to the Angels.

It was not a game to write home about for Baltimore. Playing their 10th game in 10 days the bats never got going. Baltimore was limited to two runs on only 6 hits by Jared Weaver (3-0, 2.55) who dominated the line up allowing one extra base hit a double by Nick Markakis (who has a 10 game hitting streak) in the top of the 9th. Oriole hitters clearly looked ready to go back home as on numerous occasions they would chase the first pitch. Swing at balls out of the zone and appear to give up on at bats with 2 strikes against them. It was addressed by Manager Buck Showalter in his post game interview.

"On one hand you understand the grind that baseball is and there are days like this at the end of a road trip. On the other, it make you angry. If you want to be an elite team you don't just roll over at the end of a a west coast swing. You've got to fight because this one game could mean something in September. I can't be too angry thought because they did go 8-2 on the road which isn't easy. I will say this if we were 2-8 my tone would me much different."

The Angels jumped all over Oriole starter Jake Arrieta (2-1, 3.69). They scored 6 earned runs off the Baltimore right hander with 5 comming in the 2nd inning to put the game away. Following a Mark Trumbo single (Trumbo hit .500 in the series 6-12) and a walk by Kendrys Morales to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Torrie Hunter hit a ground rule double that drove in Trumbo and put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Mark Reynolds committed his 2nd error of the season allowing a run to score. Arrieta looked to have things under control as he retired the next to batters to keep the runners at 1st and 3rd. He then proceeded to give up a 3 run home run to Chris Iannetta that blew the inning wide open. Arrieta would get out of the second allowing 5 runs (4 earned) to cross the plate. The Orioles thought about pulling him, but the defacto "staff ace" decided to gut it out and give the Orioles bull pen a chance to rest some arms two days in a row. Arrieta would pitch 4 more innings allow another 2 runs, to go with 2 walks and 2 Ks. Luis Ayala and Zach Phillips would pitch the 7th and 8th and Los Angeles would not need to bat in the 9th. The Orioles pitching staff did manage to keep Albert Pujols hit less for the series.

The Orioles have an off day Monday before they host the Toronto Blue Jays for three games at Camden Yards on Tuesday. Jason Hammel (0-1, 3.37) will battle Brandon Morrow (0-1, 3.92). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
