Reimold is congratulated following his 2 run HR in the 3rd inning

The Baltimore Orioles started their 2012 campaign off with a solid 4-2 win over the New York Mets. Nolan Reimold laid his claim to the lead off spot, belting a two run home run off Johan Santana while going 1-2 in his first spring action. Jake Arrieta looked shakey but managed to make it 3 innings giving up only 1 run. Arrieta walked 1 while going deep to several hitters for the Mets. He gave up two first inning runs, but none after that.

Adam Jones went 1-4, in his first audition to be the teams clean-up hitter. Jones did steal 2 bases though, the second after reaching on a fielders choice. Jones played the whole game as Baltimore is looking hard at pitching and choose not to carry enough out fielders early in spring. Reimold and Markakis can expect to play full game early on as well.

O's fans got an early look at pitching prospect Dylan Bundy who will pitch 3 innings with the big league club before being sent down to AA. Bundy threw 1 inning of no hit ball. It was also the Oriole debut for pitchers Wei Yen Chin (1 hitless inning) and, Matt Lindstrom (1 inning, 1 hit, 2Ks). All in all the O's pitchers limited the Mets to 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 3. Jim Johnson closed the door throwing 1 hitless inning striking out one.

The offense managed 4 runs on 10 hits. Of the Oriole regulars only JJ Hardy and Nick Markakis failed to get a hit. Buck Showalter was pleased. "You know its early, but they put three runs on an Ace like Santana and we played good defense. Winning is important, but early on it is all about getting your work in and I saw a lot of good things out there today."

Brian Roberts continues to work towards being back with the big club in early to mid May.

I played this game today (as the Mets) and lost 6-4 in 12 innings. I wish games ended in a tie after 10 innings like irl, but oh well. Francisco blew a 3-run lead in the 9th.

Yeah, I agree with the ties, I made a rule in the spring if I am the visiting team and the home team ties it I just walk in the winning run, dont care that much.
