Manning, not Peterson, should be Comeback Player of the Year Stuck

It’s been seven years since the Broncos won at least ten games.

At 10-3, the Broncos have already won the AFC West and currently have the longest win streak in the league with eight in a row. The arrival of Manning launched Denver into one of the top teams in the NFL.

After not playing last season, Peyton Manning deserves to be the Comeback Player of the Year.

There’s a strong merit he also deserves to be the MVP, but that’s a different conversation. Regarding Comeback Player of the Year, the award is generally seen as a two man race between Manning and Vikings runningback Adrian Peterson.

Both players are having a fantastic season. Peterson leads the league in rushing yards, while Manning leads the league in passing yards. However it’s Manning who has had the bigger impact on his team.

While the Broncos were a playoff team last year, practically all the problems the team had under Tebow are gone. The Broncos now rank fourth in 3rd down conversation where they were 20th the year before.

In passing, the Broncos are second in passing compared to 31st the year before. This is in large part due to Manning. His surgeon-like field vision has exceled Demaryius Thomas into his first 1000 yard season and revitalized Brandon Stokley’s career.

There is an argument to be made for Peterson. He tore his ACL, which is still regarded as a serious injury, and recovered much faster than anyone anticipated. He is also a large part in why the Vikings are 6-6.

However, is Peterson’s speedy recovery really that shocking? This is the same season where Terrell Suggs was supposed to be out for the year after he tore his Achilles tendon. Ray Lewis also suffered a “season ending” triceps injury, but Lewis is scheduled to return against Denver next week.

Besides, Manning also dealt with his fair share of injuries and procedures in 2011. Manning has had four neck surgeries to save his career. Modern medicine is a remarkable thing, but the award should be based on impact.

Peyton Manning has had the bigger impact. At week 14, he’s finally back into his groove and has turned the Broncos into a serious threat.

Crown him.

Who do you think should be the Comeback Player of the Year? Let us know in the replies.

Nah, Manning plays in a glorified skirt. Peterson plays RB in the NFL, and he tore his ACL almost a year ago, so he was back and running 9 months after that. He hasn't changed his style, lost a step or looked worse for wear. Still haven't seen Manning flash that deep ball velocity and drive yet. Manning is easily MVP, but Peterson is the hands down comeback player of the year.

(Full disclosure) Didn't read the whole article.

yeah im gonna disagree on this one, Peterson should be mvp as well if the vikings had a better record. Peyton came from what could have ended his career, but Adrian Peterson should simply not be playing this well on such a recent acl and mcl tear. the suggs example and the ray lewis example arent really valid ones because they are still trying to work their way back to form, while peterson was back in week one playing like he never missed a game, then even managed to improve him running from that when he was already the best ball carrier in football. Also factor in the beating he has to take as a running back, its impressive that he has made it so far, become All Day again.

Peyton Manning will win MVP and Peterson will get comeback player of the Year.

Am I the only person who thinks AP shouldn't even be mentioned in "Comeback Player of the Year" discussions? In 2011 he had almost 1000 yards and 12 TD. Yeah he blew out his knee at the end of the season, but he only missed a FEW games because of the injury. Manning didn't play a SNAP in 2011, and has come back strong as ever. I always thought that Comeback Player meant you were the best player in the current season after NOT PLAYING the previous year (or playing very few snaps).

i don't think AP should qualify for Comeback Player either.

Lol do you guys not realize that AP is second in NFL history with rushing yards for the first 12 games of a season. Not to mention he has 6.1 ypc in this league! Ridiculous

Have you ever seen a RB tear his ACL & MCL and come back and look like even half himself? Nah, I haven't either! The Fact that AP has come back and been better than before the injury, is avg 6+ plus yards a carry, and might eclipse 2,000 yds makes him comeback player hands down! You see a RB has to use his legs, knees to do his job effectively. Denver went to the playoffs with Tebow for cripe sakes. Disregarding AP for the comeback player of the year makes me think you don't understand the severity of the injury he had as a RB.

Adrian Peterson tore his ACL in week 16, played week 1 and scored 2 TD, and hasn't missed a beat since. That's the most remarkably quick comeback I've ever seen from an athlete, and if he doesn't win the award, the voters should be ashamed. This isn't "who's had the bigger impact", it's who had the best comeback.

Adrian Peterson is terrorizing the NFL, less than one year after knee reconstruction to repair the ACL and MCL. If that isn't screaming Comeback Player of the Year, I don't know what is.

Peyton Manning has made a remarkable comeback too, but he's not taking the same kind of hits Peterson is taking. Manning would win this award any other year.

Since Adrian Peterson is obviously not human, that should disqualify him right?

I think the nature of the two jobs is different manning is a mental mastermind, getting him to the point where he was able to take a hit which he has taken very few of this year is all it took to have a successful manning... Peterson on the other hand I think is more impressive because of his style of play he had that run vs Gb where he ran through atleast 5 people is more Impressive than manning dropping back and reading defenses he read his entire life

they both deserve it.

I understand AP got hurt, but what did he comeback from? The Offseason?

Two unbelievable performances this season from these guys. Seeing Peterson responding so well from surgery has given me serious hope for my man D Rose getting back to 100%. Anyway, two classy guys and incredible players, hard to cheer for both.

*not to cheer for both
