Five things to be thankful for this NFL season Stuck
Posted on November 22, 2012 at 04:08 PM.

As we celebrate time with family this Thanksgiving, odds are most of us will be watching three of the NFL games on today.

While watching those games, here are five things to be thankful for that have happened this season.

1. Peyton Manning

Being a Broncos fan aside, this league is better off with Peyton Manning being a sheriff at quarterback. Since returning from injury, Manning has led the Broncos to a 7-3 record and displayed the dominance that had made him a Superbowl champion.

Manning leads the league in Pro Bowl votes and is most likely the leading MVP candidate as well. With him shaking off the rust and returning to true form, Manning has given us a reason to be thankful.

2. The QB class of 2012

Andrew Luck has led his team to 6-4. RG3 has made spectacular plays and might earn the offensive rookie of the year. Tannehill, Wilson, and Weeden? Not too shabby either.

ESPN’s Greg Garber had an excellent article regarding this class yesterday where he compared the six quarterbacks to 1983 and 2004’s class. While they might not be on that level yet, this class has added a whole another level of intrigue to this season.

3. The Real Referees

We saw what a mess the replacement refs were in the first quarter of the season, including giving a game winning interception as a touchdown to Seattle. The NFL refs are perfect, but they’ve been more than satisfactory compared to the replacements.

4. Adrian Peterson’s health

After tearing his ACL last year, it was unknown when Adrian Peterson would be ready in time for next season. Not only has he recovered fully, but he leads the league in rushing with 1128 yards. His presence has rejuvenated a Vikings team that currently has them at 6-4.

5. There’s no clear team that’s the best

This isn’t the NBA where it’s the Miami Heat and everyone else.

This year is wide open and it’s anyone’s guess to who will end up playing in the Superbowl. The 9-1 Texans and Falcons don’t appear to be Superbowl front runners and there are serious questions about each of the other playoff teams.

The competitive balance in the NFL is the best out of any of the four major leagues. Any year a team can get hot and then ride to the Superbowl like the Giants did a year ago.

However the great thing about this sport is that it doesn’t matter who the favorite is or isn’t. Let’s just enjoy the ride.

Thank God I'm not in the sandbox, and pray the rest of the boys are back in the states soon!
