Countdown to Monday Night: Which team has the better upside? Stuck
Posted on October 1, 2012 at 12:40 PM.

For the Chicago Bears and the Dallas Cowboys, Monday Night Football will be a showcase for how good these teams can be.

Both teams are entering the match up 2-1, but have a lot of questions surrounding their consistency. If either offense can make a statement against the opposing defense, it could reveal a lot about the direction the teams are headed in.

“(Both) have the potential to be great,” Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall told the Chicago Tribune. “It’s a big game for the outcome of our season.”

However, at times both teams have failed to look great. On offense, each team has struggled. Tony Romo and Jay Cutler have played up and down within first three games.

The last two weeks, Romo’s been a mixed bag after a great game against the Giants. Even in a win against Tampa, Romo failed to throw a touchdown and also threw an interception. Romo’s inconsistencies have been enough for Jerry Jones to hold off contract extension negotiations so it doesn’t become a distraction.

Jay Cutler also saw his stats drop off after a strong week one performance. In the last two games, Cutler has thrown five interceptions compared to just one touchdown. With new receivers and a new coordinator, the Bears offense appears to be a work in progress.

In fact there are a lot of similarities between Romo and Cutler. When both are playing great, there’s not a complaint in the world from fans. As soon as either of them struggle, questions about their leadership and play arise.

While both teams are developing their offense, their defenses have played great.

The Cowboys and the Bears are top ten defenses in the league with Chicago allowing 279 yards per game and Dallas with just 250.

“To see them get out there and dominate like that – they’re in complete control of their offense and exactly what was going on. It’s a tough group to go against,” Cutler said about the Bears’ defense.

Heading into week four, the Bears led the league in sacks with 14. Romo has been sacked seven times this season.

With America watching on Monday Night, we’ll find out a lot about these teams.
