NFL Games Of The Week

New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles

X-Factor

Brendan - QB Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles

So Mike Vick needs a big week. So far he’s been very turnover prone, and against a Giants defense that is able to get after the Quarterback, Vick needs to be able to get after the Giants secondary.

With the receivers he has he should be able to take advantage of a secondary without Antrel Rolle. The Eagles should be able to take advantage of the Giants secondary, and Vick should be able to take care of the Giants pass rush by taking off if he has to.

Matt – Michael Vick

With two wins by one and a loss by 21, the Eagles will need a 2010 performance from Michael Vick. Vick has struggled this season with only three touchdowns compared to six interceptions. He’s also been sacked nine times.

At home and on Sunday Night Football, this will be a huge game for Vick. If he performs well against a great pass rush, rumors of him losing his starting job might quiet down.

Prediction:

Brendan - I think Philly has too much talent to fall to 2-2, and I think ultimately the Eagles improve to 3-1 after the Giants aren’t able to keep up with the Giants on offense. Michael Vick avoids the rush and has a big day. Prediction: Eagles 37, Giants 28.

Matt - This is a tossup. The Giants looked great last week, but the Eagles are at home with added pressure that could serve as more motivation. Still, I like the Giants pass rush to get to Vick. According to ESPN, Vick has the second worst completion percentage (38.9) when an extra Blitzer is sent.

Give me the Giants in a close one.

24-21 Giants

Chicago Bears at Dallas Cowboys

X-Factor:

Brendan - Running Back DeMarco Murray

So the Cowboys are 28th in rushing yards and Murray needs a big game to justify the draft position that most fantasy football guys took him with. Murray has the ability to take advantage of the Bears, but the front four of the Bears is extremely impressive.

Murray will need a big day to give the Bears the advantage they need over the Cowboys. Especially since the Cowboys cannot be thrown on. The Cowboys cannot afford to give up big plays to the Bears and Jay Cutler.

Matt – Mike Tice and the Bears offense

For the last two weeks, the Bears’ offense has not been very good. Cutler, like Vick, has thrown three touchdowns to six interceptions. However, Cutler’s been sacked 11 times compared to Vick’s nine.

Mike Tice will need to come up with a gameplan that will make this offense efficient. On paper, all the weapons are there. Brandon Marshall’s been involved with 16 receptions for 214 yards, but has only one touchdown.

The Bears defense has played great, but it’s time for the offense to catch up.

Prediction:

Brendan - At the end of the day, the Bears have the better defense and can shut down the Cowboys offense and stop the Dallas offense from taking advantage of the Cowboys. The Bears will struggle against the Cowboys secondary, but need to keep attacking the Cowboys.

Matt – I was a firm believer in the offseason that the Bears would have a great season and I’m not ready to ditch that assumption just because of offensive struggles. The Bears are still 2-1 with a solid defense.

Dallas played great on defense last week, but Tony Romo had his struggles. This week against Chicago, Romo could face similar problems.

16-7 Bears

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills

X-Factor:

Brendan - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills
Fitzpatrick is amongst the league leaders in passing touchdowns despite playing on a putrid Buffalo team. Fitzpatrick will need a game given that C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson could be out. If Spiller isn’t able to go, Fred Jackson will take his spot back over, but should be able to shut down the Pats passing attack.

Matt – Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller’s health

Both of the Bills’ running backs first appeared to have long term injuries. However on Friday following practice, coach Chan Gailey told reporters that both backs were 50-50 to play on Sunday.

The Bills have a chance to have the best runningback tandem in the league and it would be huge to get back both of them in time for New England

Prediction:

Brendan -Ultimately, I think the Pats have enough talent to take care of the Bills and knock them out. The Pats should be able to expose the Bills linebackers and put up big numbers on offense.

Patriots 34, Bills 31.

Matt - Even if Buffalo gets back Spiller and Jackson, New England has been solid against the run. They’ve limited opponents to a 3.3 average per carry. Although it is important to note, when they faced Ray Rice they let up a 5.1 average.

The Patriots are also looking for revenge due to last year’s game in Bufallo. The Bills stormed back after being down 21 and upset the Patriots. Brady and his offense will be ready to go against a team that gave up 48 to the Jets.

San Francisco 49ers at New York Jets

X-Factor:

Brendan -RB Shonn Greene

Greene is not going to get 100 yards. He might not even get 50 yards, but he needs to make his carries count. Greene needs to be able to average over four yards a carry to keep the Jets in this game.

Matt – Mark Sanchez

Since looking great against the Bills, Sanchez has disappointed. Sanchez has to play smart this week. He can’t have another game where his completion percentage is below 50.

Prediction:

Brendan - The 49ers should be able to take advantage of the Jets secondary without Darelle Revis. Revis is such a key cog in the Jets secondary that without him, the 49ers should thrive. Santonio Holmes, if he does’t see so much of Carlos Rogers, should be able to exploit the 49ers secondary.

San Francisco 28, New York Jets 20.

Matt - This game will be closer than people think because teams that travel across the country normally don’t perform as well. The 49ers played bad on the road against the Vikings too.

Still, don’t expect the Jets to have any sort of offense against San Francisco

14-3 49ers
