Titans-Lions: NFL Game of the Year?

Week 3 has flown under the radar.

It sounds absurd with the amount of coverage over officiating. However when it comes to on the field action, this week has been highly ignored.

When is the last time we saw a week that had three overtime games? When is the last time we saw two games that completed Hail Mary passes right at the end? When is the last time we saw two games had wide receivers throw for touchdowns?

For the Lions-Titans, the three scenarios above happened to be all in one game.

No one expected for the Lions and the Titans to be game of the week, let alone the potential game of the season. Although after a 44-41 overtime victory for the Titans, there�s no doubt this was the best game so far.

The Titans stormed out to a 20-9 half time lead that included two touchdowns of over 60 yards. On the first touchdown of the game, Tommie Campbell caught a lateral on a punt return to take it to the house for 65 yards. Later in the quarter, Jake Locker connected with Jared Cook for a 61-yard TD.

Even with the Titans ahead, the Lions proceeded to explode. The deadly offense put up a total of 583 yards, including 18 consecutive points to tie it in the third.

The game got even better with an entourage of highlight making plays. Darius Reynaud returned a kickoff for 105 yards. Soon after, it was Nate Washington�s amazing catch, where he grabbed the ball from behind Jacob Lacey�s back, for a 71 yard TD to take the lead.

Then it happened.

Within the span of one minute and 15 seconds of game time, the Lions scored a touchdown, recovered an onside, and then scored the Hail Mary. This was the stuff that confused Cris Collinsworth in Madden 12.

This game was headed to overtime.

When there, it only seemed right that the Titans drove down the field and managed to score a field goal. Their offense had so much success that it made sense that they scored somehow.

Perhaps even more fitting, however, was Detroit�s attempt on fourth and one on their next drive. Only this game could feature more suspense. Jim Schwartz decided to roll the dice on back up Shaun Hill.

It failed. The Titans survived an almost impossible comeback.

Now both teams are now 1-2, which might suggest mediocrity, but no one can say anything about that game was mediocre.
