Who needs a win the most in Week 3? Stuck
Posted on September 21, 2012 at 06:00 PM.

OS Bloggers Matthew Paras and Brendan Darr have coordinated again and this time gave their take on which team needs a win the most in Week 3.

Brendan - New Orleans Saints

New Orleans is just one of six teams in the NFL to start the year with two losses and the only team in the NFC to start winless. After a shocking loss to the Redskins in the first week of the season, the Saints followed it up with a loss at the Panthers.

New Orleans can’t afford to fall three games behind the Falcons in the NFC South or two games behind the Panthers or Bucs. This is a team that made it to the NFC Divisional round and nearly beat the 49ers in San Francisco last year. A team led by a Quarterback, Drew Brees, who set the new NFL record for most passing yards in a season.

This is also the same team that had to deal with bountygate over the off-season. A team that lost their head coach for the season and their interim head coach has to miss time as well. The Saints have yet to get their defensive leader back in Jonathan Vilma.

In theory, a home game against a Chiefs team that can barely function on offense should be a winnable game and help them avoid another loss. The Chiefs don’t have much in the way of a pass rush right now, which is a little shocking given the talent on their defensive line. If Brees is given time, he should be able to pick apart the Chiefs defense. The Chiefs Secondary still has talent in Brandon Flowers and Eric Berry, so a big game from Darren Sproles seems likely.

At the end of the day, the Saints NEED a win, a team with this much talent can’t afford to go 0-3, nor should it.

Matt – New England Patriots

At an initial glance, the Patriots seem fine. “Fluke” losses happen every once in a while. Never mind the Cardinals took control for most of the second half and the offense couldn’t find its rhythm.

It’s not that the Patriots are a bad team, but its offense needs to get going.

Throughout the first two weeks, Wes Welker has been a non-factor. Tom Brady’s once favorite target has been frozen out of the offense and increasingly appears that he won’t be back next year. Still, that’s no excuse to not use him now. Josh McDaniels got the most out of Brandon Marshall in his final year as a Bronco and should be able to do the same for Welker.

It is even more crucial that Welker re-finds his role with Aaron Hernandez being out. The Dual Tight End system is explosive, but only if the Wide Receivers can be just as dangerous of a threat. The Patriots brought back Deion Branch, who was cut during camp, to help with the passing game.

There are still concerns about the offensive line as well. Throughout the first two games, Brady has been sacked five times and hit ten. They’re not awful numbers, but the line has gone through many changes with injuries and retirements in the offseason.

While there might be other teams like the Saints, who might already been in panic mode, the Patriots need a win due to who they are facing.

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the best defenses in the league. Besides losing to Philly like week, the Ravens have extra motivation to get revenge for letting the AFC Championship game slip away from them.

If Brady and the offense can light up the Ravens, all the noise will quiet down in Foxboro. For now, the Patriots need to prove if they are one of the best teams in the NFL.

The Patriots need a win in Week 3.

Wes Welker just had a 95 yard game against the Cardinals. I don't think he was a non factor.

the replacement refs need a win the most in week 3. it aint gonna get any easier on them. besides, that would be a win for everyone, other than maybe the locked out refs. but lets face it, the locked out refs arent gonna be able to get a win anyway, not when the NFL is so arrogant and has all the power
