Was there ever a window for the Cowboys? Stuck
Posted on September 5, 2012 at 09:05 AM.

For the last two years, the Dallas Cowboys have been a disappointment. Even according to owner Jerry Jones, the 2011 campaign was his most disappointing year in his 24 years as an owner. Jones also speculated that the window to win with its core of players could be closing.

What window?

Since 2006 the Cowboys have had talented teams, but was there ever a year where they seemed like a complete team? Whether it was Romo’s botched playoff snap to TO’s crying to the regular season meltdowns, these squads could never get it done. There were always distractions or huge mental errors that prevented them from taking the extra step.

Now after another regular season meltdown, the team went through this offseason of dozens of questions about their window of opportunity. The amount of questions was so tiresome that Tony Romo recently walked out on a reporter instead of answering it.

Even this season, the amount of distractions could drag this team down once again. Troubled wideout Dez Bryant’s “Dez Rules” is the ridiculous type of sideshow that keeps Dallas out of the playoffs. Add that in with Jerry Jones’ added pressure and the Cowboys could very well underachieve.

It just seems like under Wade Phillips, and now Jason Garrett, this squad doesn’t have the concept of “the secret” as Bill Simmons wrote about in The Book of Basketball. In his book, Simmons documents the secret of basketball as a team with a complete roster and also doing what they have to so the team can win a championship.

Year after year, the Cowboys fell apart. For a team that historically has been so good, the Cowboys of the last ten years haven’t been able to put it together.

If a team can’t win, was there ever a window to begin with?

Do you think the Cowboys will finally be successful in 2012? Let us know in the comments.

They sured up the secondary which cost them dearly last year. So the defense should be as good as the first year under Wade when they went 12-4. But their playmakers have to stay healthy on offense, and that's going to be really difficult. Not to mention that patch-work of an offensive line. This team may get into the playoffs on a 3rd place schedule, but a superior defense will ultimately chew that line up. Either barely miss the playoffs, or one and one again. Jerry will have to turn his focus to the Oline this next season. And hope that window theory can stay open another two years.

I sure hope not. They are a horrid organization and deserve nothing but L's. I am a Texan fan and by default have to mindlessly sound like a homer... . All in fun, I do have to say the window is closing, and Ware's talent is not enough to get them to the Supoerbowl. Romo and his WRs have been up and down, so without a true trusted O, unreliable depth on D - I think Jerry is going to blow the ship up next year.
